The 6th of the Tour de France, known as the circuit of the beautiful girls, was a cliff hanger contested by two Julius. It the first major climb of the Tour, the sprinters fell away.

Giuliano Ciccone and Dylan Teuns broke all behind them and chugged their up a 20 degree climb. Ciccone broke in the final seconds and Teuns won the stage. Ciccone took the Yellow Jersey by just six seconds over the charging Julian Alaphillipe. Ciccone has the advantage of age at just 22, he'll make a quicker recovery than his rivals. But Alaphillipe and Garent Thomas will contest every step of the way. Chris Froome got seriously injured on a practice race prior to the Tour and was in intensive care. He's out of danger now but his recovery will be long.

An encouraging trend is happening. Not longer are road racers specializing on one race like The Mighty Lance Armstrong once did. The majority of the riders also raced the Giro, Chris Froome won The Giro last year. Current Giro winner Richard Carapaz is also racing but hasn't been a factor in the Tour so far.

What's with the assholes with flares on the mountain stages? Guys are desperately gasping for air and then they have to ride through clouds of smoke.

Alaphilippe has been an impressive surprise.

Very exciting race today in the Pyrenees.

It's open this year, Chris Froome isn't competing. Last season he rode and won the Giro, he couldn't recover enough to also take the Tour. It's an impossible task, only one rider has won both tours Miguel Indurain back in 92. The Mighty Lance Armstrong wouldn't even consider it.

Next year's Tour could be intense.

Frome will be back, Carapaz is skipping the Giro and Ciccone, Nibali and Trentin will all be riding for Trek Segafredo.

Alaphillipe is suffering today, he's two minutes behind. Bernal Gomez will surpass Gareint Thomas, how much time will he close on the Frenchman?

Matteo Trentin wins Stage 17 and Nairo Quintana wins Stage 18, now comes Alaphillipe's biggest test.

Stage 19 through the highest point of The Alps is where the Yellow Jersey is decided. Has Alaphillipe held back enough jam to win the stage? If he prevails he'll be the first Frenchman to win the Tour since Bernard Hinault in 1985. The French have a very good chance of sipping champagne in Paris. Garaint Thomas has fallen off he's now behind Bernal Gomez. The threat to Alaphillipe comes from a fellow Frenchman in Thibeau Pinot.

Canada has a new cycling star, Mike Woods. He finished 7th in the 18th Stage, which is extraordinary since he was involved in several crashes. He should have been done...there's no discounting Canadian toughness.

Woods is 32,not an emerging star and not a prospect, but he has done well for his first tour(36th) and higher in GC than IVs Italian ciccone.

In my near 45 years of watching the tour, this is a new one for me.
Today’s final mountain stage I do believe has been shorten and the weather is cool, rainy and shit.
It going to be a mountainous sprint of less than 100km.
It should be a barn burner

Egon Bernal Gomez becomes the first Colombian to win The Tour de France.

He owes Vincenzo Nibali a steak dinner for gassing his rivals. The Italian stayed with the front group until the 18 km when he went clear. Then he coasted allowing the chase group to come within 10 seconds of him before getting his second wind. By doing so he gassed Thomas, Quintana and most notably Alaphillipe who fell to 5th. Unless he crashes, Bernal will be sipping champagne in Paris.

What a Tour!

As for thai comment on Ciccone, he's 22. It's his first Tour and the potential is there to be a future champion. Next year he and Nibali will be on the same team.

If asterisk means exciting and competitive then I agree. Not like they had much of a choice unless they wanted to include a swimming portion and a running on mud section.

p.s. for Von, no way would Thomas try to attack Bernal. Even in the previous stage he just sat on Kruijswijk's shoulder; never attack your teammate.

Thanks for adding that it slipped my mind. Thomas and Bernal both ride for INEOS, he was protecting his place in the last 10 km. Colombian racers have now won both the Giro and the Tour. Nairo Quintana is also Columbia, he went on the attack and got gassed by Nibali. Alejandro Valverde tried to close him down but ran out of kms.

Bernal still owes Nibali a surf and turf dinner.
