Milano - Cortina has been selected to host the 2026 Winter Olympics.

It could make money, most of the infrastructure is already in place. Cortina hosted the Olympics in 1956 and is still part of the ski circuit. The Alpine events are going to be spectacular. Cortina is in the Dolomites, closer to Venice than to Milano. It's the next town over from Bolzano and north of Gorgonzolla.

I know this will get a lot negative criticism and skepticism but the new IOC is try to keep the cost of Olympics down. They like cities that already have the infrastructure in place for starters. They promised to make the bid cost to be lower too.

It seems like they are just starting to realize that they are not the be all and end all of sports. They are not the only game in town and fewer cities seem to be making bids nowadays.

Yes cause World Cup Soccer is gaining more popularity over the Olympics and it doesn't cost as much as the Olmypics to host if that country has enough football stadiums.

All that the bid needs is to build a bobsled circuit, most of everything else is in place. Milano is negotiating a new soccer stadium but it's not needed, what better way to kick off the opening ceremonies than in San Siro.

Didn't know that Luca di Montezemolo was in charge of the bid, he ran F1 Ferrari during the Schumacher years...he's the one in the pinstriped suit.

When most cities declined to bid and the ones who did are stiff D list cities, this isn’t a huge Italy win,but if this is what inflate italian’s here ego, imho that’s sad.
