Ok, this is a shot in the dark.

Does anybody here own or use to own a Nikon Coolpix A100 camera?

I have one. I like it. It is small enough that you can take it everywhere, and the optics are pretty good.

Cellphones are having better and better cameras, though.

I knew I could count on you. I saw some pics on Flickr and was really impressed by the image quality. Even at the full 20 megapixals there was no or very little loss of image quality.

Can you post some pics (nothing person please) in the thread?

But how are the shots in low light? That's the real question.
I have another camera that is amazing in low to no light. Of course, I had to use the onboard flash. I'll post a pic.

What I'm looking for is a camera that can take a photo in daylight at 20 magapixals with no loss of quality at full size. No, I don't want to pay $2,000 or more for a DSLR with a high end lense.

Yeah but usually the sensor is bigger on a point and click camera than a cell phone though. It's only ~ $180 for the camera...not too bad.

Yes, I "Amazon" the A100 and it is C$179.00. Plus, I got a free C$75 Amazon gift card from a couple of years ago because I applied for the Scotiabank credit card.

Yes, senor on a "real" camera are usually larger and this camera has a 5x optical zoom. I am really impressed that there is no noticeable loss of image quality even at the full 20 megapixel.

The Sony a6000 is several years old but still a great buy at $600.
I tried the Sony A6300 last year and couldn't get pics better than my current P&S. I was told that I would need a Sigma lense and shoot RAW to get the best pics. Of course, part of the problem could be I'm not the most competent photographer.

Don't know how the A6000 compares to the A6300.

Stills wise they should be same image quality. The A6300 has 4K and a bit better fit n finish but its also twice the price and if I were looking at a A6300 I would pay a bit more and get the A6400 with improved autofoucus and color science. Both the A6300 and A6400 are double the price of the A6000

As for using a Sigma lens and only shooting RAW. Yes, using better glass will get you better results + skills but even with the kit lens and shooting Jpeg the A6000 is a capable camera.

I bought mine online for $100 free shipping. I think it was Walmart.

I tired Wal-Mart online and no luck. I went to a physical Wal-Mart store and they had a Nikon Coolpix A10 (not A100) on the shelf. The specs look very similar so I decided to buy it and give it a try.

Sorry, I misled you. Mine is also an A10.

No apologies necessary. I'll test drive the A10 and compare the image quality to the A100 pics posted on Flickr. It seems you are happy with the image quality of the A10.

I am. I had another Nikon p&S camera before the A10. I think it was an L22. I find the optics surprisingly good for the money.

A semi-professional photographer friend swears to Nikon for his expensive equipment.
