Tomorrow will be Bobcat's last show. After signing a new contract recently the fan590/Rogers has decided lay him off and part ways. Widely regarded as one of the guys responsible for building sports talk radio in Canada.

The few times I listened to him I found him rude and arrogant. Maybe he was fired because he was rude and arrogant. Or, maybe he pissed off the ladies.

Wasn't Greg Zaun also fired because he was rude and arrogant?

Bob is arrogant in a completely different way and it's to his audience and friends/panel members. Zaun was being a male chauvinist.

Don't be surprised if TSN 1050 signs Bob over the coming months
Yeah I thought the same thing but depends on how much they're willing to pay. He had planned on retiring at the end of his current contract. He may do something like a podcast, or depending why he was laid off, be a regular guest. I think he did something to piss someone off because they're going to have to pay out his contract regardless so it wouldn't make sense to just lay him off for financial reasons.

For sure that is his shtick/persona. IMO, he does a pretty good job of it.

he comes across as grouchy. Jim Tatti and Mark Hebsher did sportsline. Started the duo broadcasting. Had great chemistry. Great humour. You see duos now often but they were never as good as Tatti and Hebscher

What I liked is that we got a whole half hour dedicated to sports instead the regular 5-7 minutes towards the end of the local news broadcast.

He’s a crotchety bastard, self centred big headed crank. I love his show...he’s a great interviewer with thoughtful questions.
I love the fact he rarely had athletes on as they are for the most part, boring fuckin radio. I will miss listening to him on the fan but I will follow the ass wherever he goes.

Apparently those two hated each other off the air.

I read where overdrive passed him or caught up to him in the ratings. Maybe the ads weren't paying his salary and then some. He should have walked away after his last contract. Everyone has a shelf life. I found myself listening less and less to him.

He's like my dad, just get tired of listening to him.

That would have been mighty stupid of him seeing as they wanted him back and his ratings were still through the roof. Now he gets a free vacation as he banks in all the money from his contract and doesn't have to work. The reason he was let go had more to do with Sportsnet/fan590 struggling as whole, and the stock options he had and the company wanting a structure change as they need a major facelift with struggling ratings.

I think scott MacArthur will replace him, maybe that's what they had planned all along when they hired him. I like macarthur's insights and he doesn't say the word like 4 times in every sentence like most millennials. Maybe they add an entertaining former athlete as a cohost, although most hockey players are fairly bland, but tsn have , coco, oniel, and maclennan.

Definitely not. MacArthur is still a relative novice in the industry. If they had big plans for him, he'd be hosting a daytime show and not taking calls from idiot Jays fans after a 12-1 blowout.

PTS is their flagship show so they'll need a star. Co-hosts like Brunt, Grange and Deitsch are more than qualified to continue on.

MacArthur has been around for years, they poached him from tsn so it must have been worth his while. He was on 1-4 time slot. He's as polished as they come.

I think the long term plan was to acquire him for McCowns eventual departure.
