I have been seeing this guys face (Alex Minassian) all over the media today (CP24, CTVNEWS etc.), why does the media show the warmest, friendliest picture of this loser.

Come on media, if he was a person of color, there is no way we would see such a pleasant and warm picture of a mass killer. The media is trying to paint this guy as some nice guy who accidentally killed 10 people on the side walk on Yonge Street, we should be seeing his mug shot from prison, he should be in handcuffs.

This is subtle reverse racism.

Bruce McCarther the WHITE serial killer, had a smilling face in all the pictures the media ever showed of him in print and on T.V. No mug shot was ever shown. Just do a google image search and you'll see. I guess the media was trying to sway a potential jury?

I'm pretty sure the media goes by pictures that are available to them.

The cops are pretty selective in what they do. As an example the man riding the motorcycle that killed that little boy a few weeks ago was never identified Initially.
The media had to do some investigation to finally get his name released.

Mug shots are not public documents. Media have to get their own pictures.

Only a Police agency can access mug shots. In some rare cases, the photo may be released to the media, when a person is wanted under a Canada Wide Warrant. That is to aid in their capture.

The Canadian Privacy Act is the main law that controls what can or cannot be seen by the public.

Criminal records are restricted information, and so are photos taken of arrested parties.

Wow, so much different down here in the U.S. Mug shots are publicly posted by some agencies and there are sites that accumulate them forever. So even if charges are dropped your mug shot, name, and birthday can be found forever on website. Obviously stronger privacy rights on this issue in Canada.

I use to follow the felony sexwork related court cases (zillions) in Phoenix following the daily mugshot postings by Maricopa Cty Central Booking.

In that case don't show a picture of the guy then, he is not a nice guy and does not deserve any respect, he is a mass killer just like Bruce MacArthur.

And posting that opinion here on TERB is the most efficient way to bring it to the attention of the TV news outlets you're complaining about.

You do know they always have more airtime, than great — or even good — images to fill it with don't you? And you watched your news instead of reading it in the paper, so they got your your eye-balls with that crap. The Star ran the same pointless pic.
