South Beach and Silicon Valley are hot properties. Kawhi always wanted to play in LA and wasn't spoken of in the same circles as LeBron and KD until recently. They all have rings, now they want to play with the lifestyle they want.
South Beach and Silicon Valley are still traditionally 2nd tier markets in the NBA. And KD and LeBron took pay cuts just to guarantee themselves a ring. Kawhi was top 5 before his injury.......and after as well.

But there's been rumblings he wanted to go back to Southern California way before the injury. It just became much more public after the injury because then he pretty much demanded a trade. He stayed in SA because the right offer and money were there at the time.

“I didn’t think I was going anywhere,” Leonard said at the time. “I would rather spend my career with one team.”

No matter how you cut it he stayed in SA.

If we are speaking of number of fans living in the area, I'd agree but combining the 'lifestyles of the rich and famous' going on in both markets and the massive worldwide fan base for those top guys, I understand their choices.

But Miami was a decade ago. The big markets are the places where the big stars have gone the past couple years. Eve the Knicks got serious consideration despite having one of the most dysfunctional management team in the league.

People are giving the 76ers and ECF ship already and Joel Embid is just so big and older than his years, and injury prone, that I gotta give him about a 30% chance of being healthy come playoff time. Then where are they.

People are also somehow assuming the Clippers are a lock, and barring an injury to Lebron or Davis, the Lakers look like they can be devasting, with Javale Mcgee, and DHoward, as back up, or SIMULTANEOUS BIG MEN, on the floor at any one time; these guys are bringing back big man ball. They might have 4 monsters on the floor at any one time. Lebron, Davis and Magee aren't exactly averse to guarding the perimeter either.

Raptors overcame the Pelicans 130 - 22 in season opener in overtime. Spicy P and VanVleet were excellent with 34 points each.
However Nurse played only 8 players, with the starters logging heavy minutes: 38 minutes for Siakam before he fouled out and missed overtime, 45 minutes for Lowry, etc.
There were 5 players who did not take the court at all.
This type of playing time is not sustainable for the entire season. He is going to wear down his starters and someone is going to get hurt.
Load management.

Only going 8 deep against an opponent that was without the guy that may be their best player says the bench is very suspect. Khufu is right this is not sustainable! Either the bench has to step up, and/or the brain trust is going to have to go shopping.
"Load management" good one gcostanza…...ha ha

Opening (home game). National audience. Defending champs. No surprise.

Rumors are coming out that Kawhai stays in Toronto if Masai can land Paul George. This would mean trading Paskal Siakam.

Past tense and false. Kawhi was going to the Clippers no matter what. Dispatching the Lakers and the Warriors with ease without Paul George in the Clippers' first two games is affirmation. The Clips have a fearsome bench.
Past tense = yes. But Kawhai gave Raps first right of refusal.

Kh, remember the heli shots of his limo? Came here, told Masai PG was his running mate and what Clips would do. Masai wouldn't give up Pascal to OKC so here we are. We had a chance, minimal as it was, but Masai stood firm on Pascal. And ergo, we are now in the post-Kawhi era.

no joy in Boston for their opener, boys, Raps will stomp that party! Let's go Raptors!

As much as I was hoping Kawhi would stay, I think Masai made the right move. I don't like it when a player dictates what you can and can't do. IMO it indicates weakness at the management level. LeBron does it and now it appears Kawhi is doing it too. If Siakim isn't as good as George he is damn close and has much more upside. Had Kawhi stayed I believe he would have had just as much success as he will in LA and perhaps more.
