Wow! A long way from the three lies for the price of one of my youth. Im still haunted by the egg omlet in a bag- inedible without drowning it in hot sauce.

Watch the videos where they open up Vietnam, WWII, or even WWI (!!!) ration packs. Some of them will make you gag just seeing them. When they open up a can of processed cheese from 1941 it's enough to make you spew chunks.

I was watching a documentary about how the British army were getting sick in the far east, fighting the Japanese. The troops were eating canned "bully beef" which turned to hot diarrhea in. . those conditions. A Japanese officer said the Japanese didn't suffer in the same way. He said, in the jungle just watch what the animals are eating. monkeys, for instance. Also, you can kill a snake and cook it with curry powder. plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.
In the same documentary, at first, the British couldn't figure out the Japanese secret weapon for getting around so fast. bicycles.

The Brits really dropped the ball in the Malayan campaign. They didn't even equip their troops with compasses for the jungle fighting- an essential tool in fighting in the thick terrain.

In a place far, far away
Show a little respect a lot of our WWW veterans survived on them. Maybe not those depicted but nevertheless it was MRE. If you ever served our great country you would be grateful to open a sealed package of MREs and not have to spend the rest of the evening shitting and hoping you are discovered.

Canadian MRE. Poutine doesn't look as good. I always think these kit are neat. Most are better today than in the past.

I have a MRE story.
Years ago I worked in a company that did sub-contract work for a major food processor. They were preparing components for a Saudi military MRE, or so I was told.
We were making 1/4 oz meatballs. I had suggested an alternate packaging format that would save 25%-35% in cost and volume. The idea was rejected by the contract holder as they wanted strict adherence to design specifications. After the order was fulfilled, the lot was too big to fit in the low temp sea container they sent. They had to send another 1/2 container for the rest. My suggestion would have negated that.
But that's not the end of the story.
The specification was 100% beef meatballs. My bosses were crooks and blended chicken into the meat matrix to extend the yield. Last I heard, the load was rejected and the contractor never got any business from them again. The sub went bankrupt shortly after.
I felt that the crooks should have been executed by martial law.

This is actually a pretty interesting thread!

Unlike some who post hours long YouTube videos of planes flying from airport to airport :/
