Problem was he was democratically elected, then the US supported a coup 'cuz he was MB.
Now they've got a despot general running the place and its going to hell.

Morsi got elected democratically.

However the Muslim Brotherhood fucked up. They made moves to quash opposition, they appeared to be going down the road toward a theocracy. The straw that broke the camel's back came when he started making noises against Israel. It was Egyptian blood that flowed through three wars with the Jewish State, the army wasn't having it.

Like a good progressive Liberal you're only telling part of the story. Why don't you talk about how he abused power, inflamed tensions with Israel supporting their Hamas and Hezbollah bretheren and caused the deaths of hundreds of protesters.

Canadians, Americans and other stable democracies have to face facts. In many non-Western countries, leaders just use democracy as a means to an autocratic end.

You might even get Taliban leaders to agree to elections in Afghanistan if U.S. soldiers entirely leave the country. See how well that would work.

That's true, but he was still much better than Sisi.

Unfortunately some of those countries are not ready for democracy. We've seen that Saddam an Qaddafi did a much better job, than Isis .
