Why?
Are you expecting it to be a black person? Would that reinforce a stereotype you probably have?
Not unexpected. The turn out was over 1 million people.
2 million according to evening news.
Probably more of that white on white crime that is plaguing the city. Likely licensed gun owners just letting loose again. Same ol' same ol'.
Fucking terrible. People just out to have a good time and this shit happens. So sad.
I was downtown and enjoying a real sense of unity and community as Torontonians and Canadians... just like everyone else. EVERYONE, black, white, brown men and women were all one big happy family having a great time together.
Then this happened.
Total buzz kill.
A couple of low-life fucktards managed to kill the buzz and happiness of a city and a country.
I genuinely feel bad for the 99.9% of black people who suffer in their day to day lives as a result of the soul-sapping prejudice they experience because of the few low life assholes.
more like a small handful of idiots amongst a massive celebration of 2 million diverse people having a fun time and proving that multiculturalism works in Toronto.... but let's ignore that and focus on the handful of idiotsProbably more of that white on white crime that is plaguing the city. Likely licensed gun owners just letting loose again. Same ol' same ol'.
Lol! Just a bit of target practice before Caribbean Festival.
You are kidding about the shooting being unexpected right? The parade was planned. They expected a lot of people and got it.
The shooting was unexpected news. And disappointing.
LOL.....how "un Canadian" that seems (see that thread on Canada to the outside world)Very nice Toronto.
This is why we can’t have nice stuff.
Maybe you can think it through before blindly undermining the cops and what kind of affect you have on their state of well being. ExampleThe lead story on all international news websites was not the exuberance of Toronto the multicultural city but rather something like this: “4 wounded and 3 arrested as shots fired at Raptors victory parade.” The image of Toronto the beautiful was marred in one fell swoop. That is the sad part.
However, it could have been far worse. Imagine if the stampede had engulfed the whole assembled mass? Catastrophe would have ensued in front of the Prime Minister, assembled dignitaries and a global audience.
After the Danforth unprovoked shooting, you would have thought the Toronto police would have done a better job by forming protective rings around the crowd. Instead, they continued in their lackadaisical ways as if we live in the sixties. Shame on the murderous perpetrators and the incompetent police.
Just maybe if the city approved higher budget and the ones who organize the police got their shit together, maybe this could have been improved. Usually the front line officers are the first to get criticized. In this scenario they did an amazing job containing the situation given the limited resources they had to control 2 million people. At one end people criticize that cops are overpaid then they criticize cops that they are incompetent and not doing their jobs. I think you should consider how much you play into this equation by spreading false and negative energy about the cops and what are the true implications and consequences to the police force with such attitude.New York Police Officer Kills Himself, Third Police Suicide in 10 Days https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/14/us/nypd-officer-suicide.html
White people don't shoot people????Probably more of that white on white crime that is plaguing the city. Likely licensed gun owners just letting loose again. Same ol' same ol'.
Completely predictable. Sadly we focus on the negative aspects. We see that in all facets of everyday life. Look at this message board for example. Positive reviews typically yield few replies but any thread that criticizes gets tons of responses. Look at the SP rant going on in this forum. It's at nine pages and counting. The lead story on all international news websites was not the exuberance of Toronto the multicultural city but rather something like this: “4 wounded and 3 arrested as shots fired at Raptors victory parade.” The image of Toronto the beautiful was marred in one fell swoop. That is the sad part.
