I love my wine, but only red. I find it to be more versatile in selection. Everything from earthy cedar dry to fruity full bodied. Acidic to soothing on the throat. And you are sure to find a gem in every level or category.....much like our hobby world. I find white wines are best used for cooking. When it comes to drinking it they basically taste closely similar to each other, to me at least.

The only wine variety of whites that I have enjoyed are desert type wines like ice wine, muscatel, or white ports.

Thoughts?

Then you have never tasted the difference between an Oaked Chardonnay, a crisp Sauvignon Blanc, and a Pinot Grigio.

Don't get me wrong, I love red too, and depending on the dish can find one to match fish and poultry.

But on a nice afternoon on my patio, a light BBQ lunch salad I love certain whites to ease into the day.

For me a Sauvignon Blanc works great on those afternoons.

And a cedar plank salmon and Oaked Chardonnay for dinner on said patio also works. With a rice pilaf and grilled veg like asparagus.

Another time is with a white pizza. Pinot Grigio then as an example.

I have tired all of the white wine flavoure's mentioned. In the bbq / patio scenarios mentioned, i prefer a cold blond lager over wine. That said, I would still choose a red wine over white if those were the only options.

Funny enough I was out for seafood tonight and went with a SB. Certainly don't regret it either.

If you really don't like white wine there is nothing wrong with that. And as I said most dishes can find a red match.

For me it's a good thing, a temperature thing, and yes a taste thing. The grapefruit edge finish of an SB always matches well with me in summer.

Red wine kills white wine. I like my reds unlike my women - medium to full bodied. My favorite type is probably Brunello - the Italians are the best wine makers. Also a fan of the underrated Malbec's.

Every Red wine taste the same to me no matter if it's a $10 or $200 bottle I don't even try them anymore and we do monthly wine tastings at my office.
Prefer my French and Italian White wines.
If you haven't already sign up to receive the Vintage magazine from the LCBO it gives you the heads up on some really nice bottles of wine a week in advance of them being released into the stores.

Racist.
LOL.
All wines are good in their own way. I go through phases. Always support the home team Aussie wines, although great kiwi sauvignon blancs and chilean reds, also affordable...

Bought a bottle of Chateauneuf- du- Pape the other day. $35/bottle. Was excellent! Then bought a Pinot Noir at $16/bottle; just as good, but different. Do love an ice cold (I put mine in the freezer) German white wine from time to time. Can not, repeat can not drink Ontario wines, white or red. Just awful.

You'll have a $16 Pinot and then say Ontario wines are awful? You're trying the wrong Ontario Wines then.

I love Old World Reds.

But I make an exception - for the bubbly - I love champagnes and cremonts, sparingly drank.

And I hate to admit it, but a couple of times during the summer, a dry muscatel. Shame they ripped out all the muscatel vines in Ontario.

You need to head down to Niagara on the lake and do some small winery tours. You will find some gems with small batch wines.

The shelves of the LCBO are filled with the mass production stuff.

Well, my daughter lives down there. Perhaps I will give it a go.

It's a good weekend. Do a bit of research into wineries beforehand. Last time I went with the wifey we came back with a case and a half from 3 different ones.

Look into Meritages, they do those well.

Ok, thanks for the info. Always willing to try something different. Just can not handle that shit they sell in the L.C.B. O.

I think Ontario reds are getting much better but no where near the quality of Italian or French.

Also, if you over indulge a bit, puking out a red is much more pleasant than the white. Just remember to wear something dark.
