Daniel Cormier, Fedor, Mark Hunt... quite a few chubby dudes who’ve done very well in MMA.
Fedor is suspect, ever since he left pride he has had mostly losses. Hunt has some physical positives which more than offset his fatness, he hits like a truck and his head seems to be made of kevlar. DC is the best candidate, but if DC got into good shape, he could easily fight in the 185 division. I would bet that DC @ 185 would be more dominant than Anderson Silva was @ 185 or Jones is @ 205 or Woodley was @ 170.

Overeem now has more of a dad bod without the roids, now he is a completely different fighter compared to ubereem. The gift of muscle and athleticism that roids gave him was a night a day difference. Also look at vitor belfort, now he is all dad bod and his performance is very poor.

True. To be fair, though, a lot of those guys (Vitor comes to mind right away), were obviously juicing before and now are getting older and have much lower testosterone levels. Vitor was on TRT before it was banned, and that was when he had his run where he KO’d Luke Rockhold and Michael Bisping, and nearly landed that armbar on Jon Jones. It was after he stopped the TRT that he went downhill fast. Same deal with Overeem. He was on the gas when he had his dominant K-1 and Strikeforce run.

Obviously, being athletic is a good thing, I’m just saying there are plenty of all-time greats who weren’t traditionally athletic and made up for it other ways. Like I said, DC looks better at heavyweight, it is a shallow division, but so is 205 at this point (especially since Gus and Jimi Manuwa retired last weekend). Some guys are just better if they’re not cutting weight. It depletes them too much.

Once again... Tyson Fury, a man with a dad bod (ie. non-athletic), just became the world heavyweight champ over the weekend.

When we think of the perfect athletic body, an image of Michael Jordan comes to mind. Broad shoulders, lots of muscle, imposing. But many of sports highest achievers don't possess the stereotypical body at all.

Some examples:

Wayne Gretzky - the best hockey player of all time was tall and lanky.
Babe Ruth - a baseball legend who looked like he ate a lot of ice cream
Tom Brady - slow, unathletic, weak looking, yet the best quarterback of all time
Kevin Durant - one of the best bball players but looks like a tall weak toothpick
Peyton Manning - small shoulders
Lionel Messi - small unassuming fellow that handles a soccer ball better than anyone since Pele
Jon Bones Jones - perhaps the best MMA fighter of all time is tall, skinny

The list goes on.

Now we add overweight American of Mexican descent Andy Ruiz Jr to the list as he became boxing's heavyweight champion a few nights ago - the first boxing heavyweight champ of Mexican descent. The first to man beat Anthony Joshua.

Looks can be deceiving. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't be something just because you don't look the part.
Outliers....

A heavyset guy like Ruiz could fight/tank hits though. Those type of guys just have a lot of power and durability. The guys that lift the most at the gym are huge but are not cut. Bruce Lee also stated that eventually size does matter. Its like The Mountain (GoT) vs Oberyn, getting hit will cause much more damage to the smaller opponent.
Oberyn should have just shut the fuck up and he would have triumphed.

But no, he just had to keep running off at the mouth and he needed up road kill.
