Might not be a good idea to use that passport to travel to Iran. Whatever.

As a civil libertarian I don't have an issue with it, what I do have an issue with is the media taking one side on these issues and essentially stifling any debate with people who aren't "progressive"

Totally agree. The lefties keep coming up with this meaningless alphabet soup of labels. The list is longer than my arm. Here is just a small sample.
Racist (their favorite)
Bigot (also their favorite)
Islamophobic (another favorite)
Homophobic (a big favorite)
and so on and so on.

Most countries / custom officer / custom guard will think that passport with sex as X is a fake. Good luck with anyone using a Poltical correct passport. Leftie / Poltical Correctness will come back a bite that person in the ass so to speak. LOL!!

That's right . Just because you have a passport doesn't mean that the Border Guard is going to let you in the country. Just like going to the States . They can ask you if you ever smoked a joint and if the answer is yes ( because you don't want to lie ) they can say sorry but we want your kind in our country even though it's legal in Canada . Yes any country can do that . Even if the guard doesn't like the way you look that person can say go back , you're not entering my country .

Canadian laws and regulations are only good in Canada . They don't mean jack shit in other countries . You wish to be known as a letter for your gender . Good luck with that . I'm a X what are you . What a joke . Congratulations , you have a bouncing X for a baby . LOL .

Just saying how the real world thinks . I really don't care what anyone calls themselves or how they define themselves .

In a place far, far away
Just imagine the lawsuit that will be filed when Bubba inspects and tells an ”X” person to bend over and cough expecting to find only one hole but finds 2. Prisons in other parts of the world aren’t as gentle as they are in 1st world countries.

So so how can a person change their gender but a person can’t claim to be older to milk the pension system.

Was there a similar outcry when they stopped listing religion on passports?

As far as Canada is concerned, the only relevance is that you are a citizen. The M/F is simply to ease identification and therefore it makes sense for someone to be identified with the gender they present as. Of course an X would present issues when entering some countries and the passport holder would have to consider those possibilities.

More significantly, why the fuck do people care what other people have in their passports (or their pants)? Does it really effect your life in any way that a very small percentage of people may identify themselves as non-gendered?

Everyone has a right to their own opinion except if they publish it, or prefer that opinion in publications they own? Is that it?

Is there somewhere you can refer me to where it describes How That Works?

The modern Canadian passport (in use since the 1920s) doesnt list religion at all
And the form letter ones had very little info

Unless the original British Canadian passports did this?

Isn't the role of a passport to represent a person's physical appearance for identification purposes? How does "X" accurately reflect a person's physical appearance?

I think its amazing that X will be an option on passports. Everyone should have the right to choose how their sex and gender are represented on legal documents. Passports have a photo--that's perfectly good info to identify someone correctly. Having an F on your passport but appearing masculine or having an M on your passport but appearing feminine puts a lot of trans people in danger of violence and/or discrimination at borders. I would love if we all switched to X and made gender on passports a non issue! And you know what else? I believe in giving babies gender neutral pronouns or using multiple pronouns for babies until they decide themselves! I say all people should be able to do whatever they like as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.

Since some international agreements that relates to passports don't allow someone to change their sex designation, a man who now looks like a woman (or had surgery and is now a woman) would have a physical appearance that contradicts their stated sex so the X would be a heads up to customs as to why.

And again, this is only the business of customs and the person involved and only that person will have to deal with difficulties in other countries. Other than not liking change or being afraid of gays, why the hell would anyone with a traditional gender care?

What better way than an 'X' would you suggest, to inform people not to expect the holder's appearance to identify them as obviously male or or obviously female?

Why list gender at all, then?
