If the Raps win the NBA Championship, will it be bigger/more significant than when the Jays won the '92 WS?

This was the topic on Prime Time sports

I say the Jays because of "For the first time ever, the World Series banner will fly north of he 49th parallel".

Toronto Raptors, more people pay attention to basketball/play basketball across the world than play/are interested in baseball.

I think both will stand equally. In no small part due to the length of the Leafs drought.

Make no mistake. We love sports in this town and will happily celebrate a winning team.

But if the Leafs get there the city and swaths of the nation will lose it in way I can't comprehend.

For the current/younger generation, a Raptor championship will supercede any memory of a Jays World Series x2.

Baseball lost a tonne of fans during their strike. The Jays have lost even more since then due to lack of winning.

Basketball is a more popular sport nowadays. It out competes in major markets in the USA.

It would be so wonderful from a historical perspective too, considering that basketball was invented by a Canadian.

NBA Championship will be bigger due to the phenomenal marketing of the NBA.

I could probably list the top 15 NBA player in '92. Not sure if I could do that with Baseball.

The Raptors are the most valuable sports team in Canada, worth around $1.7 billion. If they win the championship, even more.

It will definitely eclipse what the Toronto Blue Jays did for us in 1992, simply because of the internet and social media which wasn't part of our daily lives back then.

If the Raptors manage to win the NBA championship it will break the monopoly of the Leafs. No more backsliding in the future.

Don't forget one very, very important detail: the Blue Jays have won TWO back to back Championships. The magnificent accomplishment of the Raptors presently stands at ONE. This, by simple definition, gives the Blue Jays the upper hand in terms of significance. The 'era' of when it happened is an afterthought. These events are part of a city's history and will never be forgotten. The key is to remain competitive as a sports franchise and not let too many years (or decades) go by before it happens again.

Now, let's hope and have faith the Raptors can do it again. The core of the team is willing and able. Hopefully, Ujiri won't be lured away by a more lucrative offer and we've yet to see how the Leonard situation unfolds.

What is great about this conversation though is that Toronto now has championships in three of the great global sports: Baseball, Basketball and Futbol (TFC in 2017).

Let it resonate loud & clear across the mountains and valleys!

The Don is right, if Raptors can win it again next season, I will be impressed, This championship, I consider a hollow win, since Durant was injured.

The Raptors won bc Warriors had soo many injuries. Im a Raptors fan. We won bc we got lucky.

ie...
If the Chicago BULLS lost Scottie Pippen & Michael Jordan, the Utah Jazz would of won 2 NBA championships.

ie..
If the Buffalo BILLS beat the New England PATRIOTS without Tom Brady, it's still a win but it's wit a *asterisks*

FF, don't be an apologist and a skeptic. You need 16 wins for a Champion's run. We had our injuries, too (see Kawhi and Kyle). Recent history is all you need. If you are a true NBA fan,you would know that the GSW has no asterisk to their run. Yet when they won their first, Cleveland had Love out (shoulder) and lost Kyrie (broken kneecap) in game 1. And the next year, with those guys healthy, Cavs won. No one apologizes for the warriors. You still have to beat who's in front of you. All things considered Raps should have won this 4 straight! But don't fall for that inferiority argument, as Masai says, be proud and strong of your backyard and all good things will come. Thanks Kawhi ( Raptor forever) and the 2019 NBA championship belongs to our Toronto Raptors. Enjoy......!
