Trying to stay in a Happy Place
I watched the last two Team Canada games. Amazing finish against the Swiss (tied it with .4 seconds left, perfect pass from Dubois to Stone for tap in OT winner) Against the Czech's Murray was solid in net and Canada converted on their chances. I will watch the Gold medal game this afternoon, Canada is playing much better than they did when they lost 3-1 to Finland in their first game.

As far as Nylander the Olympic size ice and less physical style of play suits his skating game - he never has to get close to the boards so does not have to worry about getting hit.

That's the concern I have about drafting players who have only played international hockey. They might have great skills but the smaller NHL rinks and hitting neutralizes those skills to some degree.

Canada going for Gold tomorrow. (Apparently, Nylander had a great tournament.)

It's a different game. Wider rink less hitting. If you miss you're really out of position. Less board work. There's none of this cycling going on. It's all about skating which is his forte. Even on the Leafs he is best at zone entry. There are plenty B level teams.

NHL Regular season and playoffs is also different. Having said that I think we'll see the Nylander of his first 2 years rather than his last. He hasn't shown it in any playoff year though so he may not have the game suitable for NHL playoffs.

I must not really be a hockey fan. Haven't watched a single second since the Leafs got eliminated.

Yep Nylander played well. Hopefully that boosts his trade value in July.
Been impressed with Team Canada. Besides Stone, Chabot and Murray it lacks the star power of many of the other teams that were there - Russia and the U.S for instance. Also interesting to note that Team Finland does not have one NHL regular on their roster.

The vast majority of players drafted from international ranks never pan out in the NHL. Sure you're always going to have a few that do - like those you listed. I'll add Selanne and Fedorov to your list btw.

Stats please. What percent of Euro/international draftees "pan out" in the NHL as opposed to North American draftees?

I suspect you have no hard evidence to back up this statement.

I think we need to split the Euros into two groups:

1) Those who have only ever played international hockey.

2) Those who came over to Canada to play junior.

Shack: I posted a pic of Genie's bum for you.

Thanks for the thought. TBH, I am a face and boob man more than an ass man.

You're not alone, trust me. It's being played every year by the second rate teams.

Finland won with only 2 NHL players and neither of them has ever scored a goal tells you all you need to know.
