Reasonable interpretation. The Tory right wing is obsessed with its fantasy of Britain being a world power, just like in 1850 and sees European membership being an insult to Britain's greatness. There is no realistic analysis there. They have been told time and again by their own experts that Brexit will wreck the British economy and they just shrug. They believed that the EU would cave in when confronted by British "firm, imperial character" and would essentially give Britain all the benefits of membership with none of the obligations. The French and Germans simply told Britain to go fuck itself and gave Britain nothing in the negotiations. The Tory right wing and the Farage bullshit party want Brexit anyway. Because. And because Britain is the greatest country in the world, just like Queen Victoria said back in 1877.
Public opinion has now swung heavily AGAINST Brexit. That is why May refuses a 2nd referendum. She would have lost. BoJo will refuse a 2nd referendum too, for the same reason.
Corbyn and the Labour hard left socialists support Brexit. 90% of the Labour rank and file are Remainers. The Labour Party is being destroyed by Brexit along with the Tories. In recent local govt elections, both parties were virtually annihilated by Remainer parties.
Both parties are being massacred in the EU elections. Farage - who is a sleazebag scam artist, as is BoJo - is sweeping the Brexit vote and Remainer parties are eating everything else.
It's a shit show that will wreck the country in every way possible. The Tories will split over this and the party right will likely merge with Farage's party. Labour will split over Brexit as well. BoJo is a corrupt, incompetent, lying, spineless buffoon who is despised by 70% of the country, but has a following on the Tory right which will get him the PM-ship at a party convention.
None of this will do anything to solve the REAL problems of the country which are regional inequality, spiralling down standard of living, vicious government service cuts, financial flight to off shore tax shelters, lack of social mobility and opportunity, growing political corruption, growing Russian involvement in politics and regressive tax and financial policies. Parliament wrangles and feuds endlessly over Brexit. Far right and left extremism are growing. Corbyn's own policies are further left than AOC and will split the country along economic and ideological lines and Corbyn himself is an arrogant, tone deaf jerk-off. It's a car crash in slow motion.
