I'm sure the photographers did everything they could to take the best looking pictures they could, but sometimes there's just no good shot possible. It looks like something designed by a committee with an email chain, because there was always something else more important to do than meeting.

And no money for it anyway.

Disgraceful! Among the people who are pissed off are the families of our service men and women.

General Vance has apologized and admitted it was a total fuckup.

How many millions should they have spent on the all expenses paid trip to Ottawa for all the vets families from across the country, and would you then not have called them out for wasting money on a hollow photo op?

Who was proposing that? But they weren't even invited to come on their own. In fact, since the memorial is inside NDHQ, it appears the families must apply for security clearances to be allowed to pay their respects.

OH... I assumed that it would be open ongoing as a publicly accessible venue.... no?

I can't say with any certainty, but I cannot imagine security concerns that have to cover everything from dynamite vests to boxcutters, and which rely on identifying risk at safe distances would ever allow free and open entry to the Canadian Forces and National Defence Headquarters. Even in more more peaceable times last century, when I lived and worked in Ottawa, NDHQ was not a place you could simply walk into.

Howsomever, whatever security SOP the families might have faced before this brouhaha, I'll bet they're being revised and simplified with all deliberate speed.
