The biggest issue here was Trump and Cohen's intent to hide the payments, which showed that they knew that the payments were illegal.
Sanders and Obama just made errors and unwittingly took in donations they shouldn't have.
If Trump did it all out in the open and then got told it was wrong he would be given a fine, but because he hid it that shows that he knew it was wrong.

It was Cohen's personal cheque that was made out to Stormy. You have to prove Trump knew about the payment. Of course he probably did, but the onus is on the FBI to prove that he did, which is very difficult

If Trump used his personal money then there's nothing illegal about that.
If Cohen used campaign funds then thats on him, but it doesnt implicate Trump in any way
Trump the candidate is ultimately responsible for everything his official campaign does. Like a worthy captain, he can own up, or like a coward he can say, "He did it, and"I knew nothing". Which only makes him not competent.
If he used his own money to pay a porn actor not to speak about him fucking her behind Melania's back, how does that make him more worthy of the Presidency than using campaign money?

Except that you anti Trumpers still think that any of this matters. The people who gave him their votes knew exactly what kind of man they were voting for. He's been in the public eye, worts and all, for over thirty years. That's why the NYT's "revelations" about his past financial troubles were so laughable. It was front tabloid news at the time and Trump himself bragged about it.
