Yeah, let's count the ways how Trump is similar. Trump established a paramilitary organization to fight his opponents in the streets. Trump's open antisemitism is the signature part of his rallies. Trump organized a system of underground jails and torture facilities to deal with his political opponents. Trump closed the unfriendly media. Trump sent his political and judicial opponents into early retirement. Trump burned the Capitol and appointed himself a dictator. Yeah, you're right, Trump is Hitler.
A more nuanced debate on fascism these days should really include comparisons to other states and their actions. I'd even start off with China, where there government is much less lazy and inept. Since Tianamen Square they have been increasing the police state control, with the internet heavily moderated and now they're using AI based facial recognition to track minorities, including Uighurs they keep putting in concentration camps. HRW has reported on their actions.

That was because of non-Nazi guys like Rommel, Rundstedt, Manstein and Guderian. Hitler lucked into having an all star team of military geniuses running his military campaigns. So he fucked up by declaring war on the US, while simultaneously fighting the USSR and the British Empire, but his generals almost pulled Germany's ass out of the fire. It didn't last and couldn't last. Germany was the #3 power in the world fighting the #1, #2 and #4 powers single-handedly all at the same time.
Sort of like playing 3 against 5 skaters against a decent NHL hockey team, but your 3 skaters are McDavid, Gretzky and Howe. You're going to lose, but it'll be interesting for a while.

We won both World Wars. Sounds pretty smart to me. In that same time span, France was conquered. Italy was conquered. Japan was atomic bombed twice. Russia collapsed into revolution and then communist dictatorship. The Austrian Empire and the Ottoman Empire disintegrated. Germany was bent over and royally ass-fucked x 2. And the Brits were devastated because their tea was rationed and they couldn't have as many refills as they wanted - not that they would ever be so impolite as to complain about it.
The last time the Brits lost a major war was 1783.

The British military had typically been planning for the previous war (if not further back). Even at the turn of the last century, a fair number of their generals were trained in an era where nobility of birth was the desired characteristic and officers who studied and read about military were looked down upon. Yes Nelson and Wellesley were great military leaders but any reading of British military history shows them to be the exception. It really wasn't until partway through WWI that they started looking at the science part of war. And despite being a key part of British resilience in WWII, the Anzacs still hate the guy.
