I'm sure they were just planning on some 'May 24" weekend fireworks

Two men from Richmond Hill, Ontario were arrested by York Regional Police for possessing explosive materials and a detonator device.

Authorities conducted a search warrant at the suspects’ residence on May 10th where they located the hazardous material.

Mahyar Mohammadiasl (18) and Reza Mohammadiasl (47) are currently being held in custody. They are being charged with possessing a explosive device after authorities were tipped by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

According to recent comments by Minister of Public Affairs, Ralph Goodale, the situation poses “no known connection to national security” and the investigation is in the hands of local police.

Surrounding residences on Larratt Lane were evacuated as a safety precaution while the police searched the suspects’ home.

“Officers with the Ontario Provincial Police and the York Regional Police Explosives Detection Unit attended the residence to ensure the safe removal of the materials. The hazardous materials have been removed and neighbours who were evacuated as a precaution, have been allowed back to their residences,” claimed a news release by the York Regional Police.

How dare you insuniate anything besides a legal reason for these fine gentlemen to be in possession of these devices.

Islamaphobia is getting out of hand and we need to criminally punish those who spread this misinformation

Maybe they were preparing for a father and son fishing day. You never know :applouse: ... Amazing how Goodale tries to sweep this under the carpet. Yet Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP). were involved.

Judging by the names it doesn't appear they are the "white extremists" that the lefties keep fearmongering ad nauseam.

The neighbors interviewed were quite concerned by this news even though Ralph Goodale said he doesn't care.

No doubt the lefties will argue all that explosives and detonators were for a "school project".

Maybe they ordered something online from the US and Customs allowed a controlled delivery?

Unless it really was just some Shower of Stars™ backyard roman candle as Wargy sarcastically insinuated, it certainly seems as if the appropriate authorities had this well in hand.

Nah, just some people planning something.
And getting caught, before they do harm. Which is one of the principal reasons why we have police.

“no known connection to national security” That part makes me wonder why they were arrested then? Islamophobia runs wild through the police. Nothing better to do than harass these fine Muslim model citizens of which we are reminded constantly that arent ALL bad......

Because what they had is illegal?

The national security comment makes me wonder whether this was a threat they are downplaying to avoid a panic or whether it was something as simple as ordering black powder without having looked at the regulations.

Because safe, well-ordered societies have sensible laws prohibiting improper use and storage of explosives and detonators, and requiring properly trained and licensed handlers, particularly in residential areas.

Not 100% sure but I think they are Iranians.

My friend lives in Richmond Hill and he said there are many (rich) Persians living there. He said they insist on being called Persians and not Iranians. They say Iranians are people conquered by Muslim Arabs and forced to convert to Islam under threat of death.

Those are Iranian names for sure, who knows ..they could be a cell of for the dictatorship. Many that live here hate the Iranian government and ran away when the ayatollahs came in power.

Good for what? You did ask.

As for the explosives, in our democracy, the laws expressly permit you to acquire the prescribed expertise and licenses to legally purchase and properly store and use explosives safely. The laws also encourage you to maintain that standard by providing serious penalties if you do not, and various legal authorities are established by law to oversee, police and inspect such purchases and uses. I have ordered 'explosions' and worked with a number of licenses special effects technicians and companies over the years, and their legal and safety obligations were a primary concern in everything we had them do. It was that same well-established system that detected, apprehended and secured these people before they became anything like a national security issue. And for all you or I know at this stage, they were just gonna imitate something they saw in the movies.

Oh, so im sure this father and son team were most likely doing everything by the books but only failed to possibly secure their explosives properly.

Phew, and everyone thought it was a potential terrorist act? Duh....
