if anyone should be fired it is the GM. Just don't see what he did to improve the club. Overpaying for Nylander should be reason enough to send him back to the OHL. Shanahan doesn't come out looking too good either he replaces a successful experienced GM with the inexperienced upstart.
And the Islanders success in both reg season and so far in playoffs is making everything seem even worse

Babcock coached like it was 2009 not 2019. The end.

GTA & Thereabouts...
I was quite happy to see Matthews, Rielly and Anderson do quite well. The 4th line was amazing.

They never got all three lines going... While a top line gets cancelled out by the opposing top line, our top two lines never played like #1A and #1B. They alternated #1 and #2. Our #3 line was non-existent. Marleau looked beat up and Brown looked replaceable unfortunately. Kadri is likely gone as he had a poor year and went stupid in the playoffs...

Nylander's useless performance was expected. I doubt you'll see any GMs ever sign a RFA player willing to sit out for so long. Nylander killed that for everyone. Pretty-boy could have been a hockey god here with massive endorsements.

(Comments: I'm bitter about the Islanders making it further. NHL should be 1 vs. 8. I am happy for Roman Pollock with the Stars)

I think all 4 division leaders are gone. Carolina ("Sweet Caroline") is going to the next round. Never bet against Justin Williams.

The talking heads on TV are now beating up Washington.

If it was 1 vs 8 the Leafs would have played the Islanders, who completely embarrassed the Leafs in 2 out of 3 games this year.
That would definitely have been a quicker exit. The Leafs didn't match up well against them in any way.

I don't think so. Regular season means nothing. Look at Tampa. I think the Leafs can beat the Islanders with good coaching and a level headed Kadri.

Babcock will coach till the end of eternity. Of course he will be gone. We all will.

The only thing regular season gets you is home ice advantage

I'm not going to say that I am a hockey expert nor did I play anything above bantam rep. I know some people on here may have played in the O or the NHL and know more than me and I don't want to come off as being just angry or pissed off but I think Babcock can't get a pass on this. Anybody who has read some of my past posts know that IMO the leafs have been outcoached, out played and out hustled about 60-80 % of the games over the last 2 years.

They always start out slow, often tie it up and win in OT or SO. Often against lesser teams. Most of the time they are just playing shinny.
What stands out most is that Babcock is known for juggling his lines but he didn't in this series even though it wasn't working. He had arguably the most creative player (Marner) in the game playing a defensive role.
This guy has to be fired. He is possibly the worst coach in all pro sports. If you know of a worst, please make an argument for it because if opened up to the masses, I would love to sit back and seem how that debate plays out. He waits until tonight to Tavares around? Really? Don't get me started about Gardiner, why doesn't he just put the puck directly into our own net? I said after the 3rd or 4rth game last year that I would trade him for a sack of potatoes but Babcock actually thinks he's a good defenceman.

They have to fire him. Period.
he wont get fired regardless

When Babcock coached in Detroit he had three hall of gamers on his bench Zetterberg , Datysuk and Lidstrom arguably one of the best defensemen to play the game . When he won the Olympics I think I could win a gold with that roster . The biggest mistake the leafs made was resign Nylander , they already saw he is scared in the playoffs and Gardiner is possibly the worst de man In the league ! That’s the problem I. Toronto they get so much attention they start to believe their own hype , I mean Matthews can score absolutely but he’s a lazy player he was coasting around out there . Leafs will
Never ever win the cup guys period end of story

Would have been interesting to see how Komarov and Martin played against the Leafs. Who cares what happened in the regular season between these 2 teams. If you think NYI would have blown Leafs out of the water people were saying the same thing about Boston. That their heaviness was no match.

Boston was worried about Leafs so called depth of offensive talent. When Leafs would score to mount a comeback you can see the concerned look on Chara and Marchand's face on the bench. Marchand for one played like a choir boy. No antics cheap shots nothing. Didn't want to risk taking penalties.

The Columbus and Boston game settled down as well as the games go on. Sure, there's still hitting but more focus on hockey cause they know they can't run each other out of the rink.

Looks like Babcock will be around for another year, dispite his old buddy Holland going to Edmonton and any rumors of Babcock going to Edmonton.

Nothing to do with babcock but question to ponder. If a player blocks a shot before it gets to goalie it is not a shot on goal.

Q1 say the goalie is pulled. Player blocks shot standing in crease. Is it a shot on goal? By standards I would say no

Q2 say goalie caught behind net and a defender in crease blocks shot. Is it a shot on goal? By standards I would also say no

Q3 say goalie in net puck blows by him through the legs but hits defender behind him. Shot on goal? Same standard I say no

Q4 say shot glances or deflects off goalie then hits defender behind him. Shot on goal and save credit to goalie? Block credit to defender? Both so 2 credits on 1 shot? Neither? This a tough one. I don't know. But by standards it would be blocked so no shot on goal.

Q5 say puck deflects off one player and bounces off another? Who gets credit for block? O players? 1 if so who? Both? So 2 block credits on 1 shot?

So, according to wiki

Q1 no goalie hence no shots on goal unless it's a goal. But defender still gets block credit.

Q2 no shot on goal since it didn't hit the goalie. but a block credit yes.

Q3 last touch by defender so block credit no shot on goal.

Q4 same as Q3

Q5 last touch gets the block credit.
