I'm not going to say that I am a hockey expert nor did I play anything above bantam rep. I know some people on here may have played in the O or the NHL and know more than me and I don't want to come off as being just angry or pissed off but I think Babcock can't get a pass on this. Anybody who has read some of my past posts know that IMO the leafs have been outcoached, out played and out hustled about 60-80 % of the games over the last 2 years.

They always start out slow, often tie it up and win in OT or SO. Often against lesser teams. Most of the time they are just playing shinny.
What stands out most is that Babcock is known for juggling his lines but he didn't in this series even though it wasn't working. He had arguably the most creative player (Marner) in the game playing a defensive role.
This guy has to be fired. He is possibly the worst coach in all pro sports. If you know of a worst, please make an argument for it because if opened up to the masses, I would love to sit back and seem how that debate plays out. He waits until tonight to Tavares around? Really? Don't get me started about Gardiner, why doesn't he just put the puck directly into our own net? I said after the 3rd or 4rth game last year that I would trade him for a sack of potatoes but Babcock actually thinks he's a good defenceman.

They have to fire him. Period.

I agree some of his coaching is questionable, maybe that's why he hasn't won a series in like 9 years? But I don't think Babcock is going anywhere next season but he's on a tight leash.

They have no one better than Gardiner. No choice there.
I don't agree Babcock is the worst coach in pro sports but he's definitely the most overvalued.
When he signed his $50 million contract with the Leafs he was making over twice what any other coach in the league was making; now 4 years later he's still the highest paid by about $2 million/year.
There was no justification for that - it was a gift from his golfing buddies with MLSE.

It's a separate issue, but with Kadri in the lineup the Leafs would have been spending an extra 6 minutes per game on the penalty kill.
His suspension made the series close.

You know some where in Florida they say they have the worst coach in pro sports and he just got a big contract extension.

Power play. On the final game of the season they finally switch things up with Marner Matthews switching sides. PK was horrendous.

*meant to say move Tavares around.
One of my friends was saying why the hell is he even matching lines? I couldn't for the life of me defend it. Move Marner on a line with Moore and make Cassidy figure out how the fuck he is going to play against 4 lines like that. And then just roll those 4 lines at 25 to 30 second shifts, skates moving like hell or get the fuck off the ice. Play d or don't play! Don't care about how much money you make! This is the fucking playoffs! Does Shitcock who is making how much off MSLE even try it? or anything creative like that for even a period? No! answer is he does absolutely nothing, he is like a dinosaur caught in headlights. Like imagine being an animal from 100 million years ago looking at a cars headlights and then look at Babcock during most games. I think it would be very similar.

What's the Leaf's record in pulling the goalie? It seems the other team almost always scores and the Leafs don't. Might as well leave the goalie in.

Babcock has one more year. I made a thread mid season that the questioning of Babcock has started. The signs were showing. This playoffs solidified those concerns,

It’s not his fault entirely for sure, 90% at least the players, but there are questionable decisions.

I think last year and this year were the actually reasonable chances for the Leafs with the team that was built. But another year of seeing similar things will cause fatigue in the players and the fans.

Babcock does not seem to change. He seems to be predictable and overplays favourite players. This will grow frustrating for sure. The special teams never improved throughout the year at all. He did not make adjustments like Cassidy to respond to what the other team was doing. Pastrnak was not starting on the first line as the Tavares line was shutting them down. Did Babcock make a similar adjustment? Did he stack any lines when he needed a goal? Hyman is great but not a centre and losing all those defensive face-offs would cause another coach to make a change.

Did he play the hot line or reduce a line that’s ineffective? No. He did not use his depth advantage to leverage the best of his talent.

With his Red Wings, he had more talent and experience to fall back on and it worked because they were hall of farmers. It’s not working with these kids.

Look at SJ down 3 - 0. When the Leafs went down 3 - 1 it felt over and was. Defeated.

Babcock is an embarrassment to McGill university. He can't even speak proper english. Does he think playing gooder is all the team needs?

the last 2 games, he pulled the goalie before the Leafs had clear possession of the puck. Quick empty net goals both games killed all chances.

The Leafs will have to pull a "Raptor". (Mind you it is easier to reshape a basketball team than a hockey team.)

Popular (at least on this Board) players like Nylander will have to go. Bad karma, bad attitude, not a winner. Actually, he should consider figure skating.

Maybe implement "load management" (like they did for Keon in the old days) for some players. I think Marner played all 82 games this year. He was MIA in the last 4 games of the series.

we're having fun in here every fricking year after another playoff bust, aren't we? It's natural that we get real emotional after the loss from gm7. Just take a deep breath and think this is just a process to be great down the road. LOL!
First,I was able to calm down after the game last night and realized that Babcock should stay. Consistency and Stable organization are what you want in the long run. Remember Leafs gone through a dry spell of not making playoffs for years? We're spoiled right now. That's all.
Dubas just has to make a few more changes so that his team could 'progress' further than the first round next year. Or, we all hope that Boston will miss the playoff next season! LOL
Wanna hear a Raptors' type of move in the offseason? Move Andersen. I will pray on Nylander though that his play will be worth with his new salary kicks in next season.

if anyone should be fired it is the GM. Just don't see what he did to improve the club. Overpaying for Nylander should be reason enough to send him back to the OHL. Shanahan doesn't come out looking too good either he replaces a successful experienced GM with the inexperienced upstart.
