I have no prob at all with the carbon tax. I think it is quite cleverly structured and it provides real and increasing incentive to companies and individuals to reduce carbon consumption. If you drive a Ford F150 just cos you like to and whine about gas then good for you.

Your link was a presentation by Dr Darrell Bricker, a former member of the Mulroney Government. Not sure what you are referring to!!
I was referring to the link that followed the colon :)wave:) - the CBC link with the interview with "right winger" Bill McKibben of 350.org. At the six-minute mark, he blows off the idea that carbon pricing can make any difference in a small country like Canada.

Here's an example of how carbon pricing is totally useless in a small country like Canada.

The provincial auditor general reported in 2016 that Ontario's expert expected the Wynne government's cap and trade scheme to reduce man-made emissions by 3.8 megatonnes by 2020: http://www.auditor.on.ca/en/content/news/16_newsreleases/2016news_3.02.pdf

In 2018, the world produced 37,000 megatones of emissions: https://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/carbon-pollution-increase-1.4934096

Thus, if the cap and trade scheme had actually met its projected target, Ontario would have reduced global emissions by 0.0001% by next year. Rounded off, that's a decrease of 0%.

You can extrapolate the numbers for the entire country and you still would get a reduction of 0%. Totally meaningless.

I bet when you used to get asked to go out with friends for dinner you'd say 'I only had a steak, and its only 10% of the bill, a meaningless number. So there is no need to pay'.

How can we expect other larger countries to cut if we don't? Percapita we're close to the worst.

What makes him such an expert. If you raise the price of certain things people will find ways to reduce their costs.

Now you add another link. You believe the opinion of one individual? Canada is a small country? Name the "big" countries around the globe, that are much bigger than Canada!!
If a certain POTUS down South did not pull out of the Convention, then all the biggest polluters including the USA would have worked to achieve their reduction in Carbon Emission goals.
