The last 10 minutes and OT were a more than a game's worth of dama and energy by themselves.
I didn't agree with the penalty. To me it was a 2 minute cross-checking penalty (although the exact same play happens hundreds of times with no penalty at all) and 99.9% of the time the only outcome is the player who was hit stagger back a little or gets dropped on his but and pops right back up.
Nobody hit his head, nobody took a long charge, nor hit him from behind or a blind side, The fact he got hurt was due to a series of freak accidents, from the unusual way he twisted on initial contact, then the way he collided with a stratled Stastny, and finally the awkward fall to the ice. Unfortunate but not a Major penalty. I didn't even see a Ref's arm go up on the initial hit, they caved in to the optics after the fact and called it retroactively.
The Sharks did a great job of making a rallying point out of it, as the Hurricanes did with the Ovechkin KO of Smechnikov. Gallant did a poor job of not calling a T/O after that first goal to try to slowing things down a bit although I'm not sure 30-45 seconds would have been enough seeing how the Knights seemed infected by negative energy and anticipation from the whole episode.
