They want $500,000 to join. They offer all kinds of investments but the portfolios they showed me had the majority in stocks they have picked out. They will change stocks without permission based on risk tolerance.

They are fiduciaries meaning they are obligated to consider your interest only and are not after trailer frees etc

The worst? How? Can you be specific? I have an RSP and TFSA with them. No problems here.

I am hearing amazing things about Manulife Securities in Oakville. They have assembled an all-star team with massive portfolios. Let's put it this way... the top 3 guys from their Oakville office are apparently making millions NET in take home income.

You don't get to that level if you're not doing something right. Additionally, Manulife Securities unlike most securities firms only take the best and brightest. They are a highly desirable employer.

Here's their info:

Disclosure: I invest my own money. Mainly in blue chip stocks, real estate and high risk options trading. I spent years of just reading books and making mistakes along the way. If you don't have an appetite for doing your homework and get stressed out over these decisions go with the professionals.

Manulife is like any other large IIROC firm. They have good and bad teams, so you can't say with a blanket statement that a Manulife account will be better or worse than elsewhere.

For the record, one of their best and largest teams just left and started their own firm. I know Elie Nour personally. They were with Manulife for several years before launching on their own.

Personally, if someone wants to rate an experience with a firm, I need to see some form of requirements or standards. What are you looking for? Performance? Level of service? Cost?

It is everything about the people and advisors that you are with, it is never about the firm. If you have 1 ml plus, yet are at a branch level you are losing out on many opportunities that you would only get at a brokerage.
