Tempers flared as counter-protesters greatly outnumbered the attendees at a far-right rally in downtown Toronto on Saturday.

The group Pegida, a far-right, anti-Islam group, held a rally near University Avenue and Dundas Street on Saturday afternoon.

Around 30 Pegida protesters showed up, while around 250 counter-protesters, some wearing masks, were there at the height of the event.

There was a heavy police presence in the area as officers used barricades to separate the two groups and prevent clashes.

Scuffles occasionally broke out between the protesters and tensions remained high for most of the afternoon.

The situation grew increasingly tense in the early evening as counter-protesters worked to block the far-right protesters from marching and police looked to put an end to the event altogether.

As of just before 5 p.m., police said no arrests had been made though a Global News crew did see some individuals get detained.

Mayor John Tory condemned the rally in the lead up to it on Twitter Saturday morning.

“I strongly condemn the ideology & tactics of white supremacists planning to demonstrate & disrupt today in our city,” Tory said.

“There is no place for them in our Toronto.”

Tory said he has been in contact with police Chief Mark Saunders who assured him that police have prepared for the event.

The rally comes just two days after a Toronto event for the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination saw scuffles break out and around one week after a massacre at two New Zealand mosques in which 50 people were killed.

It is good that The Mayor John Tory has denounced this racist march that is really held just to stoke more hatred and nothing else. Thankfully, in Toronto it is just a handful of these racists who were protesting and they were outnumbered by the counter-protestors!!

Because the people paying them to show up don't want anybody to trace back where the funds are coming from. There is an agenda underway in this Country and has been for a long time. But nobody notices and nobody seems to care. Now you figure it out.

Most of the open eyed people know about the agenda but the media tells the sheep its all good and keep drinking the kool-aid.

You believe that shite?
You're really that easy to fool?

paidliberalprotester.com?

OMG, are you an easy mark.
The right wingers buy all that far right BS regarding paid demonstrators. I remember when Ezra Levant worked for the Sun and watched him try to insinuate that the demonstrators were paid by believe it or not certain US Moguls, during their environmental protests. Anyway, I guess CM did not read the sarcasm from the editor, regarding payment of $1500 a week to demonstrate. Hilarious!! Sheesh!!

Federal program funds summer job to help 'stop Kinder Morgan pipeline'

As Prime Minister Justin Trudeau continues to vow that the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion "will be built," his government's summer jobs program is funding a position with an activist group working to stop the project.

A call for applications for an "organizing assistant," posted online by the non-profit group Dogwood B.C., says the job involves working to help the group's network "stop the Kinder Morgan pipeline and tanker project." It notes the position is funded by the federal Canada Summer Jobs Program.

The temporary full-time job is open to students. It pays $15 per hour for 9 to 12 weeks of work and is based in Vancouver.

But according to the organization receiving the funding, this kind of political push-and-pull is nothing new.

Group got funding from Harper government as well
Dogwood B.C. said it has received funding for such positions since 2010, under both the Trudeau and Stephen Harper governments. The organization even got the funding when it was fighting the Enbridge Northern Gateway project, which Harper supported.

Kai Nagata, Dogwood's communications director, said the group isn't certain yet how many students it will hire with the help of federal funding this year. He said that in past years, students have worked on other projects as well, including one to prevent U.S. thermal coal exports from moving through Vancouver.

"The federal government has never thought to impose its political agenda on kids canvassing in B.C. on environmental issues," said Nagata, who previously worked as a reporter for both CBC and CTV.

Want to Get Rich? Be a Professional Left-Wing Protester Like Flake’s Elevator Gal

Archila is thus among the leaders of one of the Left’s best-funded activist groups, making a way of life in organizing, funding and leading protests on behalf of a host of left-wing causes and campaigns across the country.

She received total compensation in 2016 of $178,071 as co-executive director, according to CPD’s most recent publicly available tax return, which also lists her as its principle officer.

Archila is also listed with the same title and compensation for the Center for Popular Democracy Action Fund Inc., a 501(c)(4) advocacy and lobbying group that uses the same street address as CPD.

Archila is joined by these seven other highly paid CPD officials and employees:

1.) Brian W. Kettenring is CPD’s other co-executive director. He is paid, in total annual compensation, $182,198. Like Archila, Kettenring is listed as an officer of the CPD Action Fund.

2.) Andrew Friedman is CPD’s highest paid officer, with total 2016 compensation of $213,683, more than three times the median average household income for all Americans — and puts him among the top 6 percent of all income earners. Friedman is listed as the principle officer of CPD Action Fund.

3.) Steven Kest is CPD’s senior adviser, who received $179,622 in total compensation in 2016.

4.) Amy Carroll is CPD’s chief of staff. She received total compensation in 2016 of $165,245.

5.) Christine Habib is CPD’s director of operations and human resources. Her total compensation in 2016 was $132,325.

6.) Constance Razza is director of campaigns for CPD and was paid $132,193 in her total 2016 compensation.

7.) Annusya Chatterjee is CPD’s director of organizing and capacity building. Her total compensation in 2016 was $146,893.

All of the above compensation figures were current as of CPD’s 2016 tax return.

The group’s 2017 return may reflect even higher total compensation figures for Archila and her seven high-earning colleagues.
