As soon as he's out he will be deported back to IndiaI think its fair, yes it was a mistake but he ruined so many lives. He'll be out in three and on parole for the rest.
But that is IMO more the fault of the trucking company2 weeks ridin with another driver and then he was on his own?
WTF!??
Yup and my additional commentBut that is IMO more the fault of the trucking company
Yup, no winners here.It is harsh but if total time served is 3 years then that is reasonable. I do feel sorry for the driver and everyone else involved. There is really no sort of justice attainable here. The guy fucked up, probably not the brightest or careful guy. He was just doing his best to do a job in Canada as an immigrant and kaboom. Life can really suck. Poor fucker. Horrific for the kids, parents, bus driver etc etc . Just an overall smoking pile of crap situation
I think his lawyer was a dipshit and represented him really poorly. To plead guilty without a deal is legal incompetence. Part of me wonders if this whole thing is racist. I have little doubt a white defendant would have got a much lighter sentence as ALL white defendants before him have. This guy was the biggest idiot for pleading guilty.
Unfortunately the example is, if you are indian in Alberta you get screwed and we'll run you outta town.Apparently the judge gave 8 years to use as an example..there is no wayt they were going to give him a weak sentence, with all the deaths.
I agree what he did was honorable, and commendable, but in Canada you have to do what is right FOR YOU.Especially in the legal system. Its adversarial. Once you're on the system its you against the province or crown, the odds are against you so you better be prepared to fight. He shouldn't of gotten jail at all. He pleaded guilty immediately admitted he made a mistake and he was at fault. He was a man about it not many people would've done that. His tarp was flapping around probably scared first time driving such a large truck. I've made plenty of mistakes driving and in life luckily no one was ever hurt.
I see terrible drivers out there aggressive and driving dangerously !
I realize a lot of people where killed and hurt but it was a accident he didn't know what he was doing. If anything it's the mto fault for allowing a inexperienced driver to drive such a large vehicle.
0This guy was the biggest idiot for pleading guilty.
Unfortunately he got shafted for it. The message the Judge really sent, "if you do the right thing in this court, you will get FUCKED"0
I disagree I think it shows extreme character for taking responsibility for his actions and for that I admire him. Qualities like that are in short supply these days.
