More to come

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has lost another female member of his team, following two high-profile resignations by female cabinet ministers over the last month.

Trudeau told reporters on his way into question period on Wednesday that he learned from his office that Whitby MP Celina Caesar-Chavannes has decided to sit as an independent for the remainder of the parliamentary session.

“I have just been notified by my office that Celina Caesar-Chavannes has decided to sit as an independent,” Trudeau said.

“I want to thank her for her service to the Liberal Party and to her constituents, and wish her the best in her continued service to constituents.”

SNC-Lavalin CEO says firm never cited 9,000 jobs as reason for deserving DPA. Neil Bruce says employees will move to other companies if firm is banned from government contracts.

Neil Bruce says employees will move to other companies if SNC banned from government contracts

SNC-Lavalin's local employees will be forced to work for foreign competitors if the embattled engineering firm is barred from bidding on federal contracts, diminishing its role as rare Canadian global champion, the company's CEO said Wednesday.

"There would be a reduction with us but these are talented folks. They'll get a job," Neil Bruce said in an interview with The Canadian Press.

Unlike the Trudeau government, he said the Montreal-based company has never cited the protection of 9,000 Canadian jobs as a reason it should be granted a remediation agreement to avoid a criminal trial.

"This thing that somehow they're going to be unemployed is not true because they are highly qualified, highly experienced people."

This is what he also stated:

He said SNC-Lavalin employees feel bruised and battered by the last six weeks since a report surfaced that government officials pressured the former attorney general to grant the company a deferred prosecution agreement.

"And I think fundamentally that's unfair on our employees who had nothing to do with what went on seven to 20 years ago."

While he's not surprised that politicians would make hay out of this issue during an election year, Bruce said he's concerned that policymakers haven't been as willing as other countries to defend home-grown companies and their workers.

He said there's no plans to move the company's headquarters from Montreal, adding competitors are envious of its shareholder base that is 82 per cent Canadian and led by the Caisse de depot which has helped fund its acquisition of British engineering firm Atkins.

"We see ourselves as Team Canada. We are a global champion, one of few. There's not many and we're proud to be Canadian."

So hey Train, I have said from the start that there is no wrong doing by the Liberals as this happens with all the nations including our own hypocritical Conservatives in their defence of the Tobacco and oil Companies. Ethically what the Liberals did was wrong but does not break any laws. Did they do it for the good of Canada...... definitely. 20 Years ago and those who were responsible have got the boot. But I am not as hypocritical as the right wingers of this Board who defend that idiot of a POTUS who has much bigger skeletons in his closet. That POTUS even has imposed tariffs that are hurting Canadian businesses. But You can also throw your support behind that POTUS, as that is what the right wingers are all about!!

I wonder how long it's going to take Trudeau to figure out that the crisis within his government and within his own party isn't going to go away.
