Government regulators exist to keep people safe. Companies exist to sell the cheapest airplanes they can build at the highest prices they can get.
When the Artificial Intelligence the companies built into technology like the MCAS is as afraid of dying as the Genuine Intelligences sitting in the cockpit, then — and only then — AI might possibly be ready to take over control from the Genuine sort: People who think.
Given that Asimov's simple and obvious Laws of Robotic were written 3/4 of a Century ago, and Boeing utterly ignored even the underlying principle of robot-machines not putting people in danger, it makes ya wonder how much Genuine intelligence is out there. But we're long used to and hafta work with that sort, because the artificial sort is optional and clearly not ready for prime-time and no one knows how it works in the real world. Until it does. Or doesn't.
We might note, that this bit of MSM fake-news was dug out well before the crash, and was stuck under the noses of profiteering Boeing and cash-strapped, understaffed FAA for comment and/or action to go into the story. And the story of the design flaw, became the crash story. Which is why we elect governments. to make even the stupids stop, think, and get it right before there's any story. GI's care about that, AI's notatall. Of course some folks imagine electing the richest will make them rich too, while governments, laws and rules just get in the way. But now these avoidable crashes are 'getting in the way', whole magnitudes worse than making some inspector content ever could.
What digging out of details has alt-media done? What is the President doing about fixing the ineffective FAA whose budget he cut and whose vacancies he refuses to fill?
