This reminds of the threads, where people speculate who will be the player(s) to take over from the big 3 and/or I don't see anyone who can beat those guys.

Well, Andreescu is a great example of how somebody under the radar, un-hyped can come out of nowhere and start winning. We don't always have advanced warning of who is going to be tomorrow's next big thing. I'm not saying that BA IS that next big thing, but she's been having great results and she just might be. My point is that, even though she is a Canadian, I suspect most of us had never heard of her 6 months ago.

The men' game is stratisfied until Thiem, Zverev and possibility Shapovalov can unseed the current top players. The women's game has been fluid since Serena got pregnant. That's why wagering on the female game has been so lucrative for your's truly.

After the Australian Open, Bianca made the right move and hired a professional coach, Sylvain Bruneau. And unlike Genie, she didn't get shot out of a canon when she turned pro. In fact she made nothing but mistakes, tennis can be brutal. Credit goes to the hot Virginie Tremblay for getting her in game shape, her work was done after Oz. She's a Tennis Canada trainer first.

Now Shapo has to do the same thing.

They seem to be the next wave, but IMO, none of them has what it takes to dominated for any extended period of time.

To double down on my point, whoever the next longer term dominant player is, is someone that we have not heard from. Whoever he is will make his mark by age 21.

Shapo is learning how to take what his opponent gives him. In the past he's been guilty of showboating instead of defending against the serve. Lets see where it takes him.

Bianca won her second round match. In 2019 she has an obscene record of 31 - 5 in total sets won.

After watching her play in New Zealand I predicted that Bianca would win a Slam, never thought she'd go 31 - 3 in total sets won. She lost to Julia Georges in the final who doesn't defend as well as her paisana Kerber.

After getting dominated in the third set a clearly frustrated Kerber said "You're the worst drama queen ever". She's lost twice to Bianca, she's allowed some sour grapes.

4th Round: Bianca vs Petra Kvitova, if she wins that she gets Naomi Osaka.

You're right Art, I was looking at the brackets wrong. Osaka lost to Su Wei, who beat Bianca at the Australian Open.

The brackets are not up to date in the Men's Draw, haven't watched Felix since Rogers Cup.

Here are the Canadian men's match ups: Raonic vs Edmonds Today 2:00PM, Auger_Alusssimi vs Harkacz 4:00 PM Today Shopovalov vs Rublev TBA.
Don't imagine I spelled all the names correctly!

Kerber appears to be a sore loser or perhaps a sour Kraut. With no Serena or Osaka, the path may be open for another Bianca triumph. And three of the 32 men still playing are Canadian. At long last Canada is becoming a world power.

Felix's match was per-empted by Canada's National Soccer team, they look vastly improved with lots of young talent on display. Gio knew his time was done, you can't keep Jordan Hamilton on the bench.

Felix looks impressive, his game is solid, he's not wild like Shapo. He's still just a kid, once he fleshes out he could be almost unbeatable. Lovely Virginie was in his box, she gets around.

Having watched the match, Kerber won the second set and Bianca took a lengthy medical time out. Then she went on to crush her in the 3rd set 6-1. In a fit of pique Kerber called her out for being a big drama queen.

This is nothing new, after losing to Shapo at the US Open, Fabio Fognini asked Shapo to drop the gloves. Shapo let it slide. If Canada is to become a world power in tennis, these incidents will happen.

IMO, these comments seem quite premature. Canadian tennis has historically been dismal/laughable, but at this point I would say that we are for sure on the road to respectability as a tennis nation. I admit that the potential is there to be much more than that seeing as most of the excitement revolves around very young players with lots of potential, Milos notwithstanding. But Felix and Shapo have yet to win and even though possibly the one with the greatest potential, Bianca has but one win.

Everyone interested in tennis, should indeed be excited for the future, but we should not get ahead of ourselves. The whole season and 3 majors are ahead of us.

I think that Bob Bedard would be encouraged with what we have. Did anybody else, aside from me see him play? Did anybody else ever hear of him? LOLhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Bédard_(tennis)

Have no idea who Bob Bedard is. According to Google Derrick Rowe and Karen Shaver are the big wigs running Tennis Canada. I've been following the local game since Glen Mitchibata and I remember when Greg Rusedski left us to further his career in the UK.

Shapo is not as stable as FAA, his match against Rublev should not have gone to a tie breaker in the second set. Bianca ran out of gas, she wisely retired against the tough and fresh Konteveit. No reason to aggravate the shoulder any further after being broken four times.

I thought Konteveit was Dutch, she's actually a Balt just like the sorely missed JV.
