St. Patty's

It is too bad we lost the Irish Temper in Oakville....as far as I know it was the last Irish pub in Oakville
The owners were German and didn't know how to run a business so it went under. Maybe if they didn't drink the profits it might have survived. The fare wasn't traditional either so there was little about it that was truly Irish. There are plenty of other pubs to drink at in Oakville (King's Arms, Queen's Head, Pipes & Taps, Stout Monk, Abbey Arms, Royal Windsor, etc.) with better fare and better ran so I certainly don't miss it. You're forgetting Fionn Maccool's on Dundas!

Of all the pseudo holidays, this is this is the one I get the least. I've always thought it was because I was a non-drinker, because there doesn't seem to be anything else to it. Am I missing something?

Just as Christmas is supposed to be about religion but has become commercialized, so has St. Patrick's Day.

Oh, lots of pubs....just all English. I don’t classify the Fionn McCools chain as anything that remotely resembles an Irish pub other than the name.
Finagins Wake on Speers was pretty good....but it has been gone forever.
Will be heading to the big city later for a few pints at patty o’brians.

Fair enough. Bear in mind that years ago I worked at a one of the Winchester Arms locations. It wasn't faring so well so the owners changed it to Seamus O'briens in an attempt to get lost business back/boost business. Unfortunately there's not much in a name anymore, just as Mc (normally Irish) and Mac (normally Scottish) doesn't mean much after migration, etc. Enjoy P.J. O'briens, which appears to truly be an Irish Pub!

Nope, you're not missing anything. St. Patrick was the patron saint of getting absolutely blitzed on a Sunday.

I do find it strange with Canadian being a historically Protestant country that used to shit all over the Irish Catholics.

In Scarborough, Tara Inn, the original on Eglinton between Brimley and Midland closed down recently. Run by ol Irish women as far as I knew. One time, they locked the doors, and asked us if we were cops (a couple of asian guys). We said no, and they started smoking their cigs.

Pipes & Taps has great grub. Queen's Head is so classic. I was at O'Finn's a couple of times nothing special really.
