Both are solid second line players but Johnsson does more. He plays a grittier game, more consistent and is better around the boards and in front of the net.

Kapanen is pure speed and flash, with a better shot and will get more money but I’d rather keep Johnsson as he is underrated and I can pay him less and get a better game from him.

Johnsson is 20 goals with far less ice time and has a hat trick this year a two goal game. Johnsson is complimentary but Kapanen does not make his linemates better and loses the puck more often than he gets it back, unlike Johnson.

So glad he is finally with Matthews.

Change my mind.

Some people think Kap is better than Nylander so that would make Johnnson better than Nylander and up until this year it was debatable who was better between Nylander and Marner. Some people think Marner is better than Matthews. So that would make Johnnson better than Matthews.

Pure Boolean logic you got there! Nice post.

Eventually the Leafs are going to need to fix their blue line. Too bad Borgman got hurt, the seasoning in the AHL has done him good.

Given time Andreas Johnsson will be as good as Brayden Point.

The leafs have peaked this year and maybe for good. Their best players are entering their 4th years for the most part and are maxed at the cap. Now it is mostly trades and drafting which isn't enough for a cup any time soon. I think their d is awful.

I think Babcock is a detriment too.

Goals per even strength 60 min has Johnnson at 1.34 and Matthews at 1.33 so there you have it

The leafs have too many Kapanens...they have Kapanen, Nylander, Ennis, Petan and yes...Marner. Too many forwards that get separated from the puck in a strong wind.

Come playoff time when the rinks get smaller and games are won or lost with the puck battles in the corners, the Leafs are in way over their heads.

Even Freddie can't save us then.

Anyways....I take Johnnson over Kapenen.

I think Kapanen is more dangerous but Johnsson is more effective. The only think I would say about Johnsson is he needs to shoot more. And he needs more ice time - 13:13 per game is too low. Especially when a scrub like Connor Brown averages over a minute more.

I'd like to see them keep both but you can definitely make an argument Johnsson is better all around player.

Don't know what happened to Brown. Seems to have lost his hockey smarts and his hands. Never was big or fast. He kills penalties. Probably the reason why Babs likes him.

Bingo! When money is tied up with around five people, you need value. Pittsburgh got value during their cup runs with lesser known players like Guentzel.

The socialists in the room will argue that all the players should be paid the same because it is only "fair".
You could say that about hookers also

That's not directly socialism. In this case, the economics should be regulated by the community as a whole, and it is in the NHL as the union and the NHLPA work together and the players understand and accept that the more talented you are, the more money you should make.

In this system, that is fair.

I thought that the NHLPA is the union.
Oops. I meant the NHL and the NHLPA. Still, the league acts as a union of owners with similar rights and benefits.

Does Johnsson still look good with AM? I think so.
