Is it worth adding facts to the immigrant fear-fest?
The city runs a whole bunch of halfway houses and shelters for the homeless paid for by all three levels of government as well as all sorts of subsidized housing options. They also support many programs to help homeless get job training, clothing, job search, mental health, ..... The sad part of the homeless issue is there are many people who choose not to make use of the services available either because they don't want to meet the program expectations or their mental health issues prevent them from doing so.
So yes, we do spend millions on homeless, some of them whom will never overcome their difficulties. I have no issue with giving refugee claimants a couple years of support so they have the option of becoming productive members of the country (assuming their refugee claim even gets approved).
