How can a low end shoe store chain go belly up? Is this Wal-Mart's and/or Amazon's fault?

Kind of shocking.

What happened?

I would be surprised if online shopping of shoes is what people do nowadays. A pair of shoes you have to try on to be sure you like the way it feels.

Other items of clothing, can altered, but not shoes.

Based on comments I've read, apparently the shoe quality was really bad, and they didn't last long enough to be worthwhile.

The shoes look nice, but the materials dont last. The service was the biggest problem. Always felt like they were trained by 'Al Bundy'

They sell low end poor quality shoes. As far as online shoe shopping goes, I’ll go in store and try on shoes I like just to get the right size then leave and shop online and get them cheaper. I do the same with clothes, coats etc.

They just didn't have the sole to properly compete.

TBH I didn't even know they were still around. Never shopped there in my life. I buy the majority of my shoes from The Shoe Company.

i've never shopped with them. So I have no interest whether they are going out of the business. Many of my shoes / boots are from Costco and I've found that Costco has brought in high quality of shoes and boots at very reasonable prices. I bought a Sorel winter boots from Costco over two years ago for $129 and I'm still using them right now without any issue.

Who the hell shopped there anyway?
People want good shoes at good prices.
Not cheap shoes at cheap prices.

Did Zion Williamson get his Nikes from Payless Shoes?

I have a pair of Nikes (yes, I checked the sole to make sure no one is offended) and they are not cheap.
