He reached 100 goals before Matthews did, Does that mean Matthews isn't worth the contract he got?Pure goal scorers don't go on 2.5 months droughts, he needs to finish strong and have a good playoffs or he's getting a 2 or 3 year deal imo.
11 minute a game players aren't paid 10 million per.
Laine is also put on the ice when the opposing team pull their goalie.I think he mostly plays 3rd line too, meaning he plays against weaker opponents.
I don't see enough Jet's games to know if he kills penalties and/or blocks shot like Marner does.Because he scores at an elite level you just think that is all he does
Wrong, laine has mostly been a 3rd liner.Mathews vs Laine will be debated for years. You can't go wrong with either one. The concern I have with Mathews is he can't take a hit without getting hurt.

I think you're in the wrong thread.I don't think there was ever a debate. At the time of draft Leafs needed centermen and at best the talents were equal so go with centerman. At the time of draft Tavaras was no where in sight. Easy decision to go with Matthews. Even if at the end of their careers Laine turns out to have a better career the correct decision was Matthews. No debate.
Laine is considered an elite goal scorer. Well, so is Matthews and he's a centerman.
Laine's Average T.O.I. is 16.57 in 2018-19, career average is 17:06. You were (not) close though. He plays 10 minutes a game.
