Petition for Prayer Spaces in TTC Subway Station

The problem is that the TTC has no money to put in prayer rooms, so either they’d have to raise the fares yet again, or get the government to pay for it. In any case, that’s our money paying for it, and religion (any religion) should not be getting subsidized by the taxpayers. If some wealthy benefactor wants to pay for it out of their own pocket, more power to them, but expecting us to pay for their religious needs is just entitled.

^^^^^^^ this

Show me one good thing that has come from Islam.

Just one thing, please!!!!
Thats all I ask
Sadly Islam destroyed or stopped progress on many of their accomplishments during the reign of the Ottoman Empire. For example some of the earliest uses of steam power was in 16th century Egypt. They had major influences in decorative art and carpet weaving. However, at some point they turned all their focus to mosque building and revolved all their city planning around that. However, they did develop an early version of the soup kitchen, a necessity due to the events of Ramadan. Now I'm hungry for shawarma :)

Overall a sad legacy to global progress. Is it any wonder most Islamic countries today are under developed.

I didn't take it personally, I couldn't care less about your opinion of me. You just assumed I was opposing it or complaining about it. I don't know how you reached that conclusion from my post.
Nor can I see how, in spite me using the formal "one", you interpreted my post's general observation about posting without researching facts as a personal judgment of your thinking. None the less you did. And I already said, "Sorry".

They can't wait 45 minutes until they get home? Throughout centuries in Europe the religious Jews made due and adjusted their daily lives accordingly to juggle secular and (restrictive) religious practices in the face of open hostility. I'm for the prayers rooms, as long as they pay for them themselves. Or they could always ask the Saudis to build then.

No, I disagree. It is indeed a real big "biggie"

In fact, it's a fucking "hugie"

Fuck any special interest group that figures it needs to be "accommodated" or "tolerated" and frankly have the rest of society pay for it. (And this goes to all religions.)

"No biggie"

You have to be kidding me.
The only place I agree in having a single religious style room that would be available to all religions, is in a hospital where people are dealing with the sickness or death of loved ones and need a safe space to deal with the emotions that come with that.

The rest is yes - a hughie!!!!!

PS - I really like that word. Lol.

I don't have a problem with a prayer / quiet rooms as long as they are open to everyone. These rooms are now commonplace in airports and train stations in Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, etc. That being said, it is not always practical to put such a room in some stations as some might not have enough space.
The Ministry of Ontario builds "Quiet Rooms" in their office buildings....they don't call it a prayer room, but that is what it is if you ask any employee. Arrows pointing to Mecca are inside the room so they know which direction to pray. There is a curtain or divider in the room so men and women can pray separately. At any time of the day, and as many times as they wish, an employee can go to the "Quiet Room" for some quiet reflection. How would that go over in the private sector? lol.

I don’t think we have a choice in the matter. Simple fact is we are not reproducing fast enough and are not sustaining through our kids. Many don’t even have kids and just care what they like to do and whats best for them. Many immigrants and certain types of groups of people have 4/5 kids and sometimes even more. Nothing we can do here. Change is inevitable. The people with the highest numbers will have the greatest affect on our country.

What happens if someone who is non religious just needs quiet time to relax and maybe meditate? Are they allowed to use these rooms as well? Or will this cause issues and complaints?

Anyone, at anytime can use the room. What you do in the room is up to you as long as it does not disrupt others in the room. But it's real purpose is for Muslims to pray.

I would like to think that we do have choices. Whether we have the balls to make those choices is another question.

If we want, I doubt we would have any problem finding one million Chinese, Latinos, Filipinos and Ukrainians who would love to emigrate to Canada.

That’s what bothers me, eventually Canada will not exist. All of our history, culture and identity will be ploughed under by these immigrants our government insists we need.

Respected Sir:
As you yourself have cited "As a community we already have ...... spaces like these in schools, in colleges, in universities, in hospitals, in malls and even at the airports." And you forgot to mention mosques, of which there are sundry around. Wouldn't it be more expedient fo you to drop into these numerous spaces to do your daily chores before you enter our already congested subway system? And if you you still miss a call to prayer, aren't you permitted as a traveler, to catch up later in the day as "qada" payers? Further, if the TTC were to entertain your request would your organization be willing and able to fund all the capital costs and the ongoing maintenance costs? And given that this will still be a public space, would you be willing to allow Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, Dalits, Untouchables, Harijans etc access to the same space for their prayers?

I think we should just go all in and declare Sharia Law in Canada

After all, we're (according to Trudeau) the world's first post-national state (whatever the fuck that means) so we need to accommodate everyone at all times

As a man I'm kinda looking forward to this as I will be the shot caller

A private business will have guidelines for what is allowed and not allowed in the quiet, prayer, reflection, sick room, etc. and / or how often they can use it. It's up to the individuals to self-govern how they use or misuse the room. If they misuse it, then the business can reprimand the employee.

Canada has never had a strong sense of history, culture or identity because we've never been particularly patriotic vs the US.

The guberment doesn't incent hard working people to have kids because of our socialist model - they want the single moms to reproduce copiously so that they can hand out child tax benefits, free daycare and welfare cheques.

If they are not happy with the guidelines, they will go whining to the OHRC.

It's well within a person's rights (including yours) to complain about guidelines they don't agree with. As with any other complaint, the business, OHRC, etc. will investigate.

"In Canada
In 2015, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau while defining Canadian values declared his country to be the world’s first postnational state.[9][10]"

It means a one state world. The Jihadists also believe in a one state world. They actually got as far as the gates of Vienna in the west and India in the east.

As a man I'm kinda looking forward to this as I will be the shot caller
But, what about the fate of LGBTQABC in an Islamic world?
