The ugly truth about autism

Well, like I said, it’s a spectrum. There are certain characteristics doctors look for, sort of a check list. If you meet a certain number of these criteria, then you are considered to be on the autistic spectrum. Some autistic people are very low functioning, often nonverbal, and may need to live in an assisted living facility. Others are relatively normal, but may have difficulty picking up on some social cues, or may have difficulty understanding sarcasm, for example.

My buddy who I mentioned before stutters sometimes, and sometimes he has a bit of a tendency to ramble when he’s talking about something he’s passionate or excited about, but is otherwise quite normal.

Lmao right???

But im just a stupid woman who belongs in the kitchen....so what would i know ammiright?? lol
Thanks for posting here.
And just to be clear, I was posting to make fun of shoddy anti-vax, autism theories.
Anti-vaxxers deserve to be made fun of, but not those on the spectrum.

So the Amish don't get vaccinated and autism occurs 1 in 16,000 We get vaccinated and we have rates of 1 in 56. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure maybe, just maybe, something is not right.
That's not the only difference in how the Amish live.

Not to mention the Amish is a smaller gene pool..... so maybe by chance the Amish community is less genetically predisposed to get Autism.

The thing is....you don't develop autism, it's something you're born with so I don't understand how vaccinations have anything to do with it...

Tbh I was autistic (aspergers) before I ever got my chicken pox vaccine.

But also I don't see why people bring up autism as an argument against vaccinations. My brain just works differently, I'm not contagious, I'm not harming myself or others, I actually think it makes me a more evolved person because my senses are more sensitive. I feel like the people who make this argument have never actually met an autistic person before...we're not all like "Rainman" a lot of us seem very "allistic" (term for non - autistic people).

But in the grand scheme of things I thing I would rather live my life as an autistic person than die of the mumps, Spanish flu, hepatitis, or HIV (Prep is an HIV vaccination which makes you immune to the HIV virus)...but that's just me.
i was diagnosed with Aspergers back in 2005 or 2006 i can't remeber the year and i have a younger first cousin who is autistic (i her mid twenties)

What triggered that you wanted to get diagnosed? Has it changed the way you live life or feel about yourself after you found out, and was it for better or worse? Many people have some form of a condition but they never get diagnosed and go on living life as normally as possible and people usually can’t tell.

in the early 2000s did poorly during full-time college. I had to choose between going to classes full-time and work part-time to get money to buy meals. going fulltime at that college means tons of assignments and tests which is too much for me. unlike many other students, I didn't have parents that give me money regularly. I left and was tryig to find a job before going back to college part-time. did poorly on the inteviews i find customer service jobs like tim hortons mcdonalds etc too faste paste. my mother decided to take me to amental health profeccional and i was diagnosed.

Wow and thanks for sharing. Great thing about GTA area is that you can always find likeminded people to connect and feel like you are not alone. Hopefully this info has empowered you to understand your condition and make the best of your life. <3

This is amazing. Especially how you find a way to understand your situation and enjoy your condition and be proud of who you are.

I honestly don’t know if there is anything wrong with me or not. I also find myself hypersensitive such as when I walk down the detergent isle or can smell perfume, it is sometimes so intense that it make me nauseous how strong the smell is. I can even smell when a person has been through an area even like half an hour after they walked and passed and thats how I know who they are and that they were there. It also feels like I am always paying attention to patterns in people, in their face, their expressions how they change, how they feel etc...I don’t like big crowds and usually I prefer 1 on 1 and always try to find excuses to get out of family events or events at work. I try not to look at people directly in the eyes because I automatically start to try and read them and scan and follow every single pattern in their face, expressions aura that its just better to avoid contact and stare through them. AFAIK in my personal life and work life it has not surfaced to the point that they suspect I am way off and I try to hide it a lot and appear as normal as possible. This is why I like having this hobby life to explore the senses, especially when the sessions get really intense and girl goes all in. Having said all this, I know I am not what they consider normal, but don’t feel the need to get diagnosed. I like it better knowing that I have this and living a double life. My wife and kids say I am the best daddy and husband and as I key indicator I can see it in their face and their happiness and smiles. I am successful at work, so I say to myself why do I need to know. I hate labels anyways. Why can’t we just be who we are without someone else's label.

BTW if you like movies have you tried The Five Senses “https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0168794/ “. Amazing movie about the power of the senses and how they feed and keep the soul healthy. It has changed me. I also found “Touch” on Netflix really amazing and eye opening to these kind of topics.

Thanks for opening up and sharing your experiences <3

For me, when I was diagnosed my entire like made sense. Like all of my strange quirks from childhood made sense. The fact that I didn't have many friends (or any friends really) as a child. I can watch something thousands of times and it's just like watching it for the first time....for example, I have seen the office so much that I can recite all of the words to every episode and every joke is just as funny as the first time I heard it. It also explain my over stimulation when it comes to my senses. Pretty much any weird little quick I had was a characteristic of my autism which made it easier for me to cope and even bond with other autistic folx.

Absolutely, the obvious conclusion should be that its the Amish lack of cars that keep them free from autism.
Bigsleasy, stop driving and going in cars immediately, otherwise you're going to get autism!

Phew, that was close.
I realize that you need to simply things down to a level that you understand them, but in this case you're oversimplifying the issue even more than the OP. I know you're doing your best to understand though, don't give up!

Edit to add:

Oh my God, it doesn't. I think I would know more about my own diagnosis. Please give me scientific proof that there is some to on the y- chromosome that makes you more likely to be autistic.

....I'll wait.
Um reading comprehension issues?
I directly responded to your quote with 2 things

1- your comment about "autism increasing exponentially" was absurd (I mean think about it... I shouldn't need to explain why this math is flawed)
2- I stated that boys are still far more likely to be diagnosed than girls (tons of links on this, the most recent I saw from CDC was Feb 2018)

So how exactly do either of these points have anything to do with your diagnosis???
(Or the Y chromo either for that matter... the only chromo issue at all is the "frail X" and that effects an incredibly small sample set
Just because someone has FXS does not mean they are also ASD, only that they could be)

Now I'll play the waiting game

You know that the whole premise to this thread is factually incorrect, right?

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/the-amish-dont-get-autism/

The Amish do vaccinate their children (albeit at a lower rate than the broader population) and they do get autism.

Sometimes when someone spouts shit, it's maybe a good idea to just ignore them. The fat guy from Hamilton and the biggest sleaze are both dicks and should be put on ignore.

Sorry my sarcasm was lost on you.
I was trying to make the point that if you're going to try to claim that societal differences in Amish lifestyle were responsible for lower autism rates (a claim that's shown to be false with the snopes post here), then you could just as well claim that it wasn't lower vaccination but that it was lack of car use. Could have said technology, but the point was that the argument was based on poor casual references.

Thank you for sharing some very personal things about you Violette! I do have a couple of questions for you if you don't mind: Any thoughts on how your life would be different if you were diagnosed at an early age? Does the diagnosis help you in any way? For instance did you receive any accommodations when you attended post secondary? I certainly hope so!

Please do the world a favour and read a book...
I hate this expression with the passon of a 1000 suns.

Mein Kampf is a book for fucks sake.
I am sure anti vaxxers have written books as have flat earthers. I've seen a book about chemtrails on a friends shelf [yes I face plamed]
Some people's heads are filled with evil shit because the only book they read is the bible.

I know an otherwise intellegent person who worked at a library who read this piece of garbage
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1421:_The_Year_China_Discovered_the_World
She bought into it hook line and sinker because she "read a book" and that was the only "a book" she read on the topic of Chinese history. Sadly it is sold and listed as non fiction but anyone who has read many books on the subject or even a book of high quality on the subject would know that this particular book was a pile of vomit and feces.

Reading a book doesn't do shit
1: The book might be complete garbage
2: The random book most likely won't cover the topic at hand, To Kill a Mockingbird contains no information on killing Mockingbirds let alone the autism.

One should never read *A* book, one should read many books from trusted authorities... or at least snoopes so we wouldn't have to put up with Big Sleazy's bullshit all the time.

Thus endith the rant.

How does one get diagnosed with autism? I've seen people who are totally normal average person and you couldn't tell of they were autistic unless if they told me.
You go to a mental health professional and do some tests

Assuming you are not just a troll

Doctors also do not "stick needles" in a child under 3
Even a flu vaccine is a drink for children that young
Most of this is either trolling or (thankfully) proof you never had a child
Oh my, I have a couple children and PERSONALLY watched the nurses inject each of them the day after birth.

Lies

No child just born is ever given the flu vaccine (certainly not a "day after birth")

Thanks for clearing up you are trolling
