Justin Trudeau must start every day thanking his lucky stars that the NDP chose Jagmeet Singh -- the empty suit -- as its leader.

One can only imagine what kind of turmoil will break lose if Singh loses the Burnaby South byelection.
Him losing the by-election would be a blessing for the NDP. Actually, on the second thought, it will make no difference. The party is rotten to the core, far removed from its roots. Nobody knows what they stand for, not even the party itself. They don't need a savior, they need a hard, long look at themselves and the role they want to play in the Canadian society. The Conservatives have, strangely enough, became a party of the working people and the Greens are beginning to eat into NDP's constituency. At some point they'll have to decide if being a party of the special interests is really working out for them.

The NDP's traditional base was the unionized workers. Then they went into tree-hugging mode.

Those two interests actively conflict with each other, especially BC. Unionized workers want jobs chopping trees, and NDP environmentalists want to 'save' the trees.

Also, the NDP has this thing about the 'rich' paying their fair share. Being rich starts at around $60,000. Skilled labour often pays more than that, so skilled labour tends to drift away the NDP.

The NDP is the repository of all kinds of issues people at large are pissed off at. Those issues often contradict each other, leading to those not happy to leave the party. If they just represented the labour issue and drop all of the other contentious issues, they would be doing a lot better now.

They already have a plan to get rid of him and replace him with either Nathan Cullen or Guy Caron. This is how much thr NDP cacus hates the guy, they are ready to replace him at a moment it's notice. They'd have a leadership race, but the NDP is too broke thanks to Singh, aka the worst leader since McLaughin who lost the NDP official party status.

Many of us are sick of his fuck ups. Railroading an awesome MP like Erin Weir out of cacus, alienating the Praires, his disaster at fund-raising, the massive drop in the polls, pissing off Quebec, getting very little media attention, and even less positive media attention, calling Praire NDP politicians privledged, I mean he has fucked up in almost every way he could fuck up. Last time I checked the NDP was third in the riding polling. The NDP will also likely lost the Quebec bielection, because Singh is making his race the priority, to save his own ass, drawing resources from Quebec, which would be disasterous for the NDP.

I have never in my life seen any NDP leader with net negativies in leadership polling before and he isn't even elected yet.

Singh is the master of disaster, he wasn't ready for the job, and honestly he is so "woke" that he is just pissing off the working class every he speaks.

Jagmeet Singh should resign if he loses the by-election. The NDP seem to be rudderless under his leadership and the Liberals have managed to attract a section of the NDP base. But the next elections should be interesting with Bernier beginning to build support with his party that was started 4 months ago:

Wonder whether he will rival the NDP for the third spot?
Under Jagmeet yes, under Guy Caron, no.

Wow. I knew he was under performing but I had no idea it was that bad.

He's lucky he got to choose between Brampton and Burnaby because those are almost the only ridings he could win in.

Let’s be honest, the NDP have been on shaky ground ever since Layton sold them out to get into bed with the CPC back in 2006. If you want the definition of a phoney champagne socialist, and political whore extraordinaire - look up Jack Layton.
He sold out the social conscience and credibility of the NDP, all so that he could eventually sleep in Stornoway. The “socialist” who propped up (multiple times) a PM and a party that was exactly opposite to NDP core beliefs. Ever since they’ve struggled at articulating what they are and what they can offer Canadians.

Since he’s dead, few examine his legacy with a critical eye. When you get right down to it, dying was the best thing Jack did for his own legacy.

2006 eh? Christ you hold a grudge :D

I agree with Layton and his wife living off the public teat all their life. He did run a good campaign particularly in Quebec. Of course his only competition there was Iggy.

Layton a champagne socialist? I disagree... he was a good man.
You expect him to wear plaid shirts and work boots at all times?

Layton would not have been out of place as a perpetually self serving politician on Veep. He may have been a good man on a personal level (and how can any Terb member criticize his love of a good hard massage), but his politics were for sale - nothing more evident than in 2006 and 2009 and 2011. All talk, then he did Harper’s bidding. In the long run, how did that work out for the party?

As a side note, I get involved regularly during elections and have worked as a scrutineer a few times both Provincially and Federal elections for both the Liberals and Conservatives. In my experience, NDP volunteers in the GTA are the most unfriendly, miserable group of people I have ever met. They typically look at other volunteers like the enemy and they often try to circumvent the rules by wearing orange and then glare when they are told to change as if somebody turned them in (when it’s the polling station officials job to tell them). It’s happened every time I’ve scrutineered.
