This is a big deal for China. An ambitious mission, and success.

But it bothers me they did this with a cloak of secrecy, almost like the Soviet Union during the space race, only announcing the mission after it was complete.

How are they going to deal with who actually owns what parts of the moon and establish what kind of political and social paradigm will be followed or is this first come first owns. Who ever dominates the moon will have significant power because they can create and send powerful missiles just on kinetic energy alone due to speed such as the Kinetic Missile.

This is exciting but also concerning.

Best case scenario for the moon is that it becomes a billionaires tourist destinations and they use the money to build bases for future space missions. Worst case scenario it is becomes a battle ground for territory between USA/China/Russia .

China (and the rest of the world for that matter) is wayyy behind the USA in technology.

China didn’t even launch their first Austronaut into orbit until relatively recently lol

Don’t fret, let China have their 15 mins of fame. This is not a space race. More like a snail (China) vs challenger hellcat (US military technology)

Technology is to be used by everyone. Trump wants supremacy for America only at all costs but the Chinese and others obviously do not agree. "Stealing" technology is laughable but has been going on since the time of the Pharaohs. Who invented paper or porcelain for example and who is using it now? Huawei 5G networks, the Chinese moon landing, several thousand foreign Chinese science grad students in America are the reality that America must grapple with. Trump's base are not exactly people who tend to be studying sciences technology but see dominance and supremacy over others as their birth right.

While the press have reported it as Dark Side, there is no such thing. There is a far side of the Moon, but when the moon is new the far side is fully sunlit.

I follow space stuff as close as I follow the MPAs in the GTA like a hobby, many in the space community felt that there was a veil of secrecy even prior to this event. Their efforts and space projects feel shady with lace of ulterior motives.
