So Canada's been eliminated and before the game started I noticed something annoying... where the fuck were the red Team Canada jerseys?!? Those black jerseys are okay as a third jersey once in a while but holy fuck enough already. They played 5 games and wore black twice, white twice, and red only once. I was sure this game would be in red (and Canada was even the home team!) but nope, black again. What's next, the green jersey?

I figured, ah well, they'll beat Finland and are "saving" the red jerseys for the semis and gold medal game. Nope!

Serves 'em right, hope they learn their lesson and WEAR RED NEXT TIME!!!

Edit: And they were on Canadian soil no-fucking-less!!!

I prefer the red or white jerseys too...but the WJH supporters have red and white jerseys...gotta sell some black ones now.
Why do you think the NHL went to the dark jerseys for home games...because fans like to wear the same colour as their team is wearing. It’s always about the money!

Bummer about the loss. I can’t say we outplayed them though.

Don Cherrry was right - something I think is rare - but he said the the hockey gods would get them for running up the score to 14=0 against Denmark. When it counted they could not score - and a broken stick at just the wrong time.

The team was terrible this year ., they played just like the NHL not a body check in sight ! And that Comtois was throwing self around like he was the Russian ,? What has happened that this is the kind of team we put on the ice ,? That frost kid showing off when he scored like the 8th goal . I hope someone gives them all a smack in the head to wake them up

I know it's shallow and baseless, but between the way he played the game and the way he looks, I have trouble imagining Tim Hunter as being the sharpest knife in the drawer of coaches.

LOL!

They ran into a team that played a good game and gave up a fluky goal that tied the score.

The World is producing some good competitive hockey players.

Online 'cowards' blast Canadian captain Comtois after missed penalty shot.
In the hours following the loss, the 19-year-old reportedly received a number of angry comments on his personal Instagram page. The ability to comment on his page has since been disabled.

Roy Sports Group, the agency that represents Comtois, has released a statement on the “vicious attacks” by what they characterized as “a few cowards.”

All I got to say is, for all the Dickheads hiding under an online alias out there, get a F/n life and quit ur bitchin and whining . There only kids and they did their best. Canada cant win every year.

... they played just like the NHL not a body check in sight !
Blame the IIHF for that. They call body checks so vigilantly if they touch the head, are within any distance of the boards, or if the puck wasn't immediately on the opposing player's stick that it's not worth the risk of a penalty. Every time there was a big hit there was either a penalty or everyone was on pins and needles that the refs would call one. Thus, limited checking.

I heard about that. The internet sure does have a way of bringing out the best in people. I'd like to see them make those comments to his face?

A player has a 30% chance of scoring on a penalty shot, give or take. So the goalie has the clear advantage in this day and age.

As for the game, it came down to a fluky goal to tie, a missed penalty shot, a sure goal but for a broken stick then a deflection for the win in OT. The Fins should feel pretty lucky to have won.

Cherry will have a field day with this tomorrow night. The failure of the Frechie, the D-man not getting his stick out of the way....I predict lots of ‘‘I told you so’s’’
Oh I'm sure he will. I do however believe that for the number of shots tipped in off the deference's stick, there's infinitely more that are tipped wide resulting in no goals. I'm sure they have stats on that, but Ron will never mention them.

The alternative to getting your stick in the way of the shooter, is to let him have a clear point-blank shot at the net.

I was thinking the same thing. There are so many shots that are deflected off the net and right out of play. As a guess it must be 1000 shots are deflected out of harms way vs. one that goes in to the net. I would take those odds.

Back to the Canadian game, it was too bad that kid's stick broke before the Finns scored the winning goal. Kind of reminded me of my days playing road hockey with a plastic blade. I'd be ready to drill a shot and the blade would fly off. If no one had a nail/screw to put the blade back on then that stick would be given to the goalie to use.

I played before any of that plastic shit.

I played a lot of road hockey one season and had an all wood stick that wore down from the pavement little by little by little. By the time April rolled around I had a stick that could have passed as a sword. The tip was incredibly sharp but it did not break until mid-May. My wrist shot was better than any other year.

Everyone thinks that was a sure goal when the Canadian's stick broke. Nope, it was too close into his body, and the puck not a natural shooting position, and he was 15-20" from the net....I say it was 25% that he scored if the stick didn't break. Whatever, we had our chances to win, but we didn't. As Shack mentioned, Hunter is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Pick a sharpshooter for the penalty....not the "nobody will fault me for picking him" captain. Frost or Glass should've taken the penalty shot.

LOL! I had a few of those worn down wooden sticks back in the day. I still remember with those plastic blades you could put a wicked curve on it by heating it over the stove element.

I too was surprised that he had Comtois take the penalty shot. Then I read the Comtois had a separated shoulder. Great communication all round. Oh well, you can't win it every year.

Get used to it. The USA is now the dominant hockey country on the planet. Hockey in Canada is on a permanent decline. Wearing red jerseys isn't going to help.

If you haven't figured it out already, time to start watching basketball.

Demographics will eventually catch up to us. With the birth rate of us “white” folks declining and immigration increasing there will be fewer kids taking up the sport. A lot of people from the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia have no interest in hockey at all. Soccer will be the sport to benefit. Forgot to mention the cost, it is horribly expensive to keep a kid in rep hockey.

Lol! Are they now?

p.s., I do realize you're trolling but you might want to avoid timing it right before the US loses the gold medal game... just a thought...
