Chasing my tail
I seem to recall reading that not all camera posts actually have a camera. They move the cameras around, mix it up, so you’re never sure if it’s an active intersection,on or not.
I wonder if they shoot both or all directions? After studying the intersection I noticed only one camera tower facing one direction. I’ve noticed others have two towers.
I’m likely not to get the ticket now...unless corporate holds it to attach to my bonus : /

Its easy to tell when they go off since there will be a flash produced. I’ve seen it many times and its not hard to miss.

Also , if you do not stop while making a right turn on a red it considered going through a red light !

Many drivers have been nailed doing this.

About 6 years ago while working in Albert I was warned by co-workers about this exact scenario, was always nervous of the right on red. Red light as well as photo radar was everywhere in town and suburbs.

So I’ve been expecting some feedback from work regarding an incident November 1st. I approached an amber light with intentions of stopping but if was going to be a rediculously hard stop, so I got back on the throttle and the light changed red just prior of entering the intersection I believe. There was light traffic, no pedestrians and no “near miss” involved. I also was not speeding.
A week later I traveled through the same intersection when I noticed a red light camera sign posted. I assume it was there the week prior as well. Here’s the thing....I was driving a company vehicle with out of province plates. It’s been over 7 weeks and I’ve heard nothing? Anyone know how long a ticket takes? The Canada Post delays haven’t interfered with my shopping deliveries, so I assume they’re not the issue. Did the out of province plates save my ass??
Well, if something's worth having, it's worth waiting for.

I just slow down ahead of time when I see the warning, no need for an expensive ticket (would rather use on hobbying) and don't need some fucker rear ending me if I have to slam on the brakes (because they're probably on their phone texting and driving).

In a place far, far away
Good to many bad drivers out their, too many people texting while driving and walking.

Maybe someone in the government will have the stones to do a study and publish it as well outlining what the pedestrian or cyclist was doing shortly before they got themselves killed. Yes got themselves killed.

$325 fine. Had it happen to me once while doing a right hand turn. They send you a couple pictures in the mail.

I have a pet peeve about red-light cameras unless there are huge visible signs saying they're active. Red light camera's exist on major intersections supposedly so that you won't get situations where idiots try to make it through and get stuck in the middle, blocking traffic. By putting highly visible signs out, this would accomplish the goal more than simply having a stealth camera and small sign. i.e. IF drivers know that there is a red-light camera, they will adjust their driving. It's the same thing with hidden radar traps on supposedly dangerous or busy sections of road. IF you want cars to slow down - make the radar visible and post signs. THEN cars will slow down.

Otherwise, just admit that it's a cash grab with no other purpose except revenue generation.
At least it will make people more likely to follow the laws in THOSE locations. It's like saying police should only stop speeders in marked locations. Sorry but I have no issue with laws being enforced in any legitimate location. The fact that you can be charged with running a red, blowing a stop sign, or speeding in any location should encourage you to follow the law at all times.

p.s. If you are stuck in the intersection I believe a red light camera will not nail you. It is triggered by entering the intersection after the light changes to red. Getting stuck in a red is a different ticket.

Somebody needs to design an app where if you come within 100 feet of a red light camera your phone starts beeping

Some GPS have this function, I know an old TomTom I had would do this.

BTW, I got a $325 red light ticket a few years ago. Those few pics in the mail are nothing compared to the vast array they have in your file, including your speed with every photo.

After checking online apparently all you need to do is go in for the hearing and sing the blues a bit and your fine will be reduced and they will offer you a payment plan. Got mine dropped to $160. They looked at me funny when I told them I preferred to pay the entire amount and turned down the payments. Almost blew it. I would imagine this will only work once.

Or, how about stopping for the red light. There's no reason to run a red, between observing the countdown timer and that other thing called an amber. It's the easiest ticket to avoid. If you get one, you deserve it.

I hate it when I'm making a left turn and oncoming cars blow through the red. I wouldn't care if they put them at hundreds more intersections. Good drivers stop for red lights, assholes run them.

Of course way back when, Toronto invited the bad driving you mentioned when it — alone in the world — invented the brief Four-Way Red, which survives to-day, to keep taxes low by avoiding redesign cost to make intersections efficient for left turns.

The 4-Way Red is augmented now by countdown timers that inform drivers of the time remaining until the amber, and further aid the ass-holes too far away to make it through the green, and too stupid or too self-absorbed to stop on the amber as the law requires.

Only if safe to do so. Regardless, no one should be entering an intersection on a red. If you do, you're either going too fast, not paying attention, or misjudged.
