The film was the last major production of The Weinstein Co, it's been shelved indefinitely. Sort of a shame since the history is stranger than fiction: Cumberbatch as Thomas Edison, Michael Shannon as George Westinghouse, Nicholas Hoult as Nikola Tesla and Matthew MacFayden (Succession) as JP Morgan. The reason it's getting mediocre reviews is Weinstein probably couldn't leave the story alone. Weinstein made money on The Imitation Game but he whitewashed it into a bag of shit. I lost all respect for Benedict Cumberbatch for not defending Alan Turing's legacy.
I'm more concerned that City of Lies got shelved, Johnny Depp doesn't deserve the persecution. I hope Enemaman get terminated with extreme prejudice at the box office.

I was under the impression that Lantern Entertainment acquired Weinstein assets and was planning on releasing the movie sometime either this year or next year based an October 2018 post. Has this changed and they now decided not to release it. Based on the hype on Telsa for many reasons and many forums and social media hype I believe that the movie will do well. Lately many movies that I actually liked and the fans enjoyed the critics rated very poorly. I really hope they release this one to the masses.

What it boils down to, Bob Weinstein is attempting to minimize the scalping he'll be forced to take. The Maria Contreras - Sweet Group is attempting to buy the Weinstein library. Disney is holding firm on Mirimax and the Weinstein are facing a civil lawsuit. I don't expect this film to be released this year. Imho they should scrap it and start fresh, The Current War should not be another The Imitation Game.
I did a background check of The Maria Contreras - Sweet Group, it smells fishy to me. Ms Contreras - Sweet appears to be a Mexican Government insider, does the incoming Mexican President want the Weinstein library? It looks like the deal Yonghong Li made to buy AC Milan.
