I say that AA wins a WS within 3 years.
Me neither that's a lot of money for a guy who can't stay healthy, they have Camargo to play 3b , he's young and had a good year
JD is going to be a huge salary bite with no guarantees of good health. I hope it works out for them, but it's not a deal I would make.
The amount is mitigated by the fact that it is just one year. If it is a mistake it is very short term. It will not be an albatross. I also suspect that AA has done some due diligence as to his health status and I think they had a good relationship so (maybe I am naïve here) there would be some honest communication.

Doubt it. Atlanta needs a third baseman, and JD is the best option out there. Atlanta's window is now so no harm in a gamble with JD. I would expect AA is to professional to make a move like this just out of spite.I wonder if deep down AA and possibly Donaldson see this as a shot at Shapiro and his management team?
Not just out of spite, that would be stupid and I think AA is far from that, but ya know that warm fuzzy feeling you get when a plan comes together and that zaps someone you really don't care for......kind of a win and gotcha moment, not necessarily a planned thing, but a very pleasant side effect! I do not know much about the Braves save for the fact that they are a young and upcoming team. Donaldson brings a positive attitude and work ethic that will only help the team. In 2015 and 2016 his leadership helped propel the Jays to back-to-back AL finals. The amount is mitigated by the fact that it is just one year. If it is a mistake it is very short term. I always love AA's bold moves. Even if they didn't work out on the field he kept the fan base interested and asses in the seats. A slightly different approach than some other unnamed executives who give their fans nothing to be excited about. Unless they find slashing payroll exciting.
A one year deal basically puts the onus on JD to show he still has gas left in the tank. If he has a miserable year or is hit with injuries any chance at one more big contract is history.Doubt it.
