First off, Dailymail is basically a tabloid. Second, the reason polar bears are becoming a threat to Inuit populations is because destruction of their environment is forcing them closer to human settlements, which causes them to encounter humans more often. They’ve also learned that human settlements often have food that they can scavenge, which makes them less afraid of humans.

It’s not the number of bears, it’s their proximity to and willingness to interact with humans that’s changed.

but more interaction with humans should result to more Polar bear casualties won't it?

Tree huggers take a pic of an old bear dying of natural causes and call it the result of climate change.

Yes, it should and does. That’s the point. The claim is that these bears are becoming a threat because there are so many of them. That’s not the case, there are not. They’re becoming a threat because they’re emboldened by the need to enter human settlements to find food. It’s a bad situation all around. Dangerous for the people because there are hungry bears wandering into their towns frequently, bad for the bears because they often get shot.

And again, it’s not that climate change is necessarily directly killing the bears, I won’t get into that because it’s a whole different can of worms. It’s that it causes destruction of their habitat and food sources which forces them to scavenge food from humans.

So what you're saying is that we've found a solution to the invasive Indigenous species?

The foremost expert on polar bear populations in the Canadian Arctic is Susan Crockford.

She has been on record as saying the polar bear population is strong and are highly adaptive to any changes in climate.

Well, according to the inuits I visit for a week every month and a half all over Nunavut and NWT, they see less and less of them.... I kinda trust these guys, it's been their land for centuries after all...

Well yeah. Again, it’s not the climate the bears are at risk from. It’s bullets.

I’m not saying polar bears are going extinct, I’m just addressing BS’s (perfect initials, by the way) claim that there are so many polar bears that they’re a threat to people, so climate change is a lie. He’s fundamentally misunderstanding the issue as usual. The issue is that problems caused by climate change are creating a situation dangerous to both the bears and local humans. The fact that the bears are adapting to these environmental changes (ie. entering human settlements for food) is exactly the problem.

Even worse than reading his idiotic conspiracy theory posts, is when people actually respond.

...controversial Canadian government report bitterly contested by environmentalists who have made creature the icon of global warming

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/science...ns-warns-controversial-government-report.html

Oh look they lied to you again. Are you starting to feel like a bit of a schmuck yet ?
I'm inclined to believe this is fake news funded by the federal government and there is no empirical data provided to support their narratives. Environmentalists have consistently expressed the potential extinction of polar bears as a result of climate change. This is just my personal interpretation.

I don't doubt their account but that doesn't necessarily mean that polar bear populations are dwindling. They could be in other geographic areas not inhabited by the Inuit. The Arctic is a big place after all.

How do you even know polar bears are tasty enough to eat?

Polar bear livers contain enough vitamin A to induce instant (and possibly fatal) toxicity in humans. If you’re gonna eat a polar bear, avoid the liver!
