Where the fuck did I ever say we need to shut down the welfare system? I just pointed out there is fraud and they should be prosecuting more cases. Almost half a million people in Ontario receive some form of welfare benefits. $3B for Ontario Works financial assistance plus $5.1B for disability support plus a portion of the $1.2B in Drug Benefits Program.Insurance fraud is a problem, so we should close the insurance industry?
The city of Ottawa alone has seen a 50% increase in referred cases for fraud investigation in just 5 years. About 300 cases per month on average. Of those about 45 of them result in a termination of benefits. My guess is that the city is being lenient but we'll take it for what it is. So that's 540 terminations per year out of a case load of about 37,000 recipients. About 1.5%. If we extrapolate that across the province 1.5% x $8.1B in benefits equals $121.5M of potential fraud in the system. And that's a conservative amount. But the left thinks that should just be ignored.
