Sure, but at least get a better pitcher for him then some minor league guy with a 4.23 ERA, please????!!!

Or is that too much to ask??
Not unreasonable, but we have not seen this guy. As much as I hate shapeero, his scouts know more than we do. Last year I'd never heard of Diaz when we got him and he turned out decent and now we are complaining that we didn't get enough for him. This may be a similar situation.

Getting a player who is as talented as your new girl is beautiful, is less important than cutting payroll, regardless of the lame product they field for the fans.

A fair point, and I hope in the long run you are right

Diaz was an OK player on a bad team. Thought they might keep him as the utility infielder. Average player, not a player that is going to get you a ring!

Fine, can we at least get a minor leaguer with an ERA under 4.00 for him though???

The PCL is such a hitters league it’s unbelievable
ERA under 4 is very tough
An Aussie catcher (Dave Nilsson) hit .400 in the PCL in 1990 as a brewer farmhand
Don’t go too apeshit on this being a bad deal
Spare part for spare part
Let’s all take a deep breathe and move on

As fans, we need to just realize what our situation is and it is not going to change unless and until our current prospects max out on their potential. This is because it is obvious that management is not willing to make any bold or even impactful moves that is going to increase payroll no matter how much the fan base is ignored and returns the sentiment in kind with decreased interest, attendance and viewership.

It is really strange. An ownership with overflowing pockets is willing lose money hand over fist for the sake of cutting payroll. Maybe we are the Marlins of the north. Save $40M in payroll and gladly accept the $100M loss in revenues because the team cannot compete.

Off topic, thailover, are you cheering for Tiger or Phil next weekend? LOL.

When I mean hitters league,I mean the ballparks they play in are hitter friendly and at high altitude.
Inflated batters numbers, something similar to the coors field affect in Denver, but more so expect the high ERAs

Hey, maybe improved proformance isn't such a good idea. I'm from out of town and in '18 I could get 2nd level club seats off StubHub for $40!! That hasn't happened in awhile.

Maybe that is shapeero's plan to increase attendance.

but it does bring up an often forgotten point.....I and many like me are baseball fans first and blue jays fans second. Only 28 cities have a major league baseball team and we are one of them. Yes, it is preferable to have a winner..but baseball fans come win or lose.....not just on a bandwagon.

Always take a PCL league ERA with a major grain of salt. Thornton is only a mid level prospect with nice stuff... but pacific pacific coast league era’S are always significantly inflated.

For a frame of reference, he was listed as Houston's 25th top prospect.

In Toronto he has been installed as our 22nd top prospect.

As if anybody need confirmation of how putrid shapeero's team is, they announced yesterday that Justin Smoak was selected the Jays' player of the year last year and he hit under .250 with an OPS of about .780

And here's the kicker, it was a unanimous choice. Hahahaha.

Well, it's not like they could choose Osuna, the only other possible candidate.

For the money they're paying him he did have a decent season though

For sure it was respectable, but I'd hope that the player of the year, let alone a unanimous choice, would have had a season that was significantly better than decent. In the ballpark of an all-star season, at least in the discussion if not actually considered.

That also means that not one single player on the team had better than a decent season. Hence my use of the term "putrid". Has shapeero said that they are "going for it" again this season?
