Different cities/fans, different organizations, different approaches.

DD wins them a WS last year but Sox are only 9 games over.500 this year, which is still 11th best record in MLB. Gone. No tolerance for mediocrity..
I think it was more a matter of "we given you one of the highest payrolls in baseball, this team should have been competitive for years". He has saddled them with bad contracts. If Chris Sale and David price have years like this for the rest of their contracts, that's a tone of money down the tubes. He also made some other bad signings like Steve Pearce and such, and there farm system is weak.

Very different situation. But aside from the WS, I think I heard that they'd also won the division 4 years in a row. IMO, it still seems like a very short leash for what he accomplished.

As per the bolded areas, and that they are no longer a playoff worthy team, maybe they are in line for a teardown and rebuild from the farm system up.

Joe Biagini is the first reliever in Astros history to allow 6 earned runs in a game without recording an out.

Just saw that. But there's a good chance that he'll have a witty quote after.

I also forgot to mention Nathan Eovaldi. there's another 17 million a year down the drain. Between him, Price and Sale, that's about 77 million a year not looking good at all. I think ownership in Boston is pretty tollerent of mistakes, but at some point....

So the question is, is it worth to win a WS by overspending if you may not be able to sustain being in the hunt. How long will it take for them to be a playoff team again?

Eddie Fisher and Carrie Fisher can play the outfield better than Derek fisher, and they're both dead.

Good one!!! But don't forget Derek Fisher the retired NBA player, or Bobby Fisher the Chess master.

Biggio just hit for the cycle with a triple in the 9th. Pretty cool.

The only cycle rarer is the "natural cycle".

"In baseball, hitting for the cycle is the accomplishment of one batter hitting a single, a double, a triple, and a home run in the same game. Collecting the hits in that order is known as a "natural cycle"."

Following his dad 17 years earlier. Only two pairs of sons and dads have ever done that.

On a less positive note, Jays have the worst batting average and have given the most walks in MLB.

Tim Mayza had surgery today to repair a torn UCL and torn flexor tendon in his left elbow. Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas. Grade 3 tear of each, so estimated return is spring training 2021. Tendon pulled off the bone so hard that Justin Smoak heard it at first base.
