The Blue Jays 2019 Season

Conventional wisdom in MLB is that you wait until the rookie is ready to perform at a high MLB level before promoting to the bigs. That way you maximize the length of time you can keep the player at a reasonable salary while delaying his FA eligibility. Developing talent at the big league level is considered a waste of resources as any team that does that would be more of a farm system for big market teams.

Not saying it is a good thing for anxious fans who want to see young talent although it does make a lot of sense financially. And like most businesses in the end it's about $$$. Think about it though ..... would you rather see a young kid hone his skills and then have a chance to leave once he gets really good? Or wait until he will contribute solidly so you get more years of seeing this talent playing at a higher level?

So rumor has it the Jays wont call up Guerrero jr until May sometime (if even that), because that way they can keep him for another year until he becomes a FA

Of course, but when the whole world thinks they can perform at a high MLB level, you have to bring them up like in case of Vlad Jr.

Of course it would push their FA eligibility back, but you can't risk screwing up the development of player by trying to push his contract back. This team wants to be competitive in the next few years, so to make sure he's ready, you have to bring him up now to get him going.
As well, I believe in most cases that if wait just a few extra weeks until the beginning of April, the team gets an extra year of control.

They do, which is exactly the reason he was never going to start the season with the Jays. What Big Rig was saying is the jays wont promote him this year at all and wait out a few more years until the team gets better.

In my opinion, the whole concept of holding him back (before the "injury") was wrong. It showed the Jays were business before baseball. Vlad's agent is going to remember that when he becomes FA eligible. So if he is as good as expected, he will go to the highest bidder...rather than respecting the Jays and taking a good offer from them. And if the Jays are contenders then, they will have the money to pay a higher price.

The only good reason to hold him back is if Drury is indeed a better players t this time to play third base. Baseball is supposed to be a merit based game where the best players play.

I never understood that all they had to do was not start the season with him to get an extra year out of him.

He is a true supertar. When have the Jays had one in their minor league system? Very few teams have such a star in the making. To lose him a year early just to bring him up for show when the Jays are gonna lose anyways when they could get another year out of him when the Jays are competitve makes no business sense.

He will be the player they need to be a real contender so make sure you got him as long as possible.

He is gonna want a very long term most expensive contract in baseball and the Jays smartly do not give out such contracts so to keep him as long as possible they must delay his entry as long as possible

Not playing him this year still makes a lot of sense as that does gives them yet another year of glory out of him when they are competitive if they delay his entry yet another year

But, I do not know what the union rules are or what his agent can do to force the Jays to bring him up

Same goes with the other potential stars in the Jays system

The Toronto Blue Jays are in the process of finalizing a pay increase of more than 50 percent for any player who is on a roster of an affiliated minor-league club, from the lowest rung in the Dominican Summer League to the highest level at Triple A.

You're living in a fantasy world. This should not have been your first clue Jays put business first, but they are not really unique in this. As for holding him back, this is standard procedure all over the league. It won't affect negotiations down the road as every other team does the same. If the Jays (and other teams) let emotions run the team the fans would really be screaming.

I'm not sure what that means?
I think shack meant to quote LolRus ...... from his link:

"The Toronto Blue Jays acquired right-hander Jason Adam from the Kansas City Royals on Sunday for cash considerations.

Adam, 27, had a 6.12 earned-run average in 32.1 innings pitched last season with the Royals. He also had 37 strikeouts and 15 walks.

Over six minor-league campaigns, the six-foot-four, 225-pound pitcher has a 4.28 ERA and 485 strikeouts over 566 innings pitched."

Oops. I meant to quote LoLRus about the pitcher Adam, they got. As I read it now, I see it was a lame attempt at humour.

Yeah, you got it. LoL called him an all-star, so seeing as his ERA was over 6 last year, his best numbers were things like his weight.

Without going into more details, he will 100% be up pretty much as soon as his bat is hot in Buffalo. Probably sometime in late April early May. Had he not got hurt, he most likely would have been up on April 12.

A.A.'s selection in the 1st Round of the 2014 MLB draft (11th) for the Toronto Blue Jays, Max Pentecost, left minor league camp today.
He is evaluating his playing future. He has not played an inning above AA level.
