I'll be watching Bohemian Rhapsody later today, review forthcoming.

Bohemian Rhapsody isn't the only grand symphonic song Queen wrote. The other is Innuendo. Freddy had less than a year to live when he recorded it - his voice remained undimmed.

For Innuendo, Queen became a five piece band, Steve Howe (Yes) took part.

Another shit ass SJW. Sacha Baron Cohen wanted to make a darker film, it may not have worked. People don't want to know about Freddie Mercury's human defects, they want the showman with the Enrico Caruso voice.

Before I started working 16 hrs a day, I was a huge Queen fan. I had every album up to Hot Space and I saw them live 3 times. Sheer Heart Attack signaled what was to come. The first two album were standard rock and SHA started the same way. Side two went in a whole different direction.

It was the Roger Taylor song that told me Queen were in the process of destroying musical convention.

I saw them at Maple Leaf Gardens on their News of the World tour, had all their albums up to Jazz but got turned off by The Game in 1980.
Another One Bites The Dust and Floyd’s The Wall signaled the decline of two amazing bands for me.

Such a music Icon. He recorded the Show must go one in one take after drinking a bottle of vodka. He died not too long after. His guitarist was as well, imo, one of the best. Hopefully the movie will be as unforgetable as he is.

Cutting his hair and growing a moustache didn’t help.

Freddie left his personal estate to to his wife Mary Austin. He said, " All my lovers ask why they can't replace Mary. It's simply impossible. She's the only friend I've got, I don't need anyone else".

Mary Austin, unlike other estate benefactors, has always gotten along with the other members of Queen. The reason why their music has endured, it was never restricted. It's readily available of YT bringing in a whole new generation of fans.

Suge Knight recently went to jail.

Van Winkle (Vanilla Ice) lost all his money from Ice Ice Baby. When asked about it he said Suge Knight shook him down. That's bullshit, he got on David Bowie's nerves by being a dickhead and The Thin White Duke took his money. Van Winkle wasn't about to admit that.

Bowie busted Van Winkle after Freddy died.

They never did anything for me.

Next to Rush, maybe the most over-rated of this generations rock bands with large followings.

However, unlike Rush, Queen's lead singer could actually sing.

Vanilla Ice did NOT lose ALL his money from Ice Ice Baby.... in fact Vanilla Ice decided to buy the publishing rights to Under Pressure rather than pay the royalty for the sample. Whenever Under Pressure is played, Vanilla Ice gets paid.

In addition to his multi-platinum music career that made him a millionaire, Vanilla Ice has done very well as a real estate developer.

Suge did get some money off Ice which was used to launch the infamous Death Row record label.

Smallcock, I thought you were an expert at spotting fake news? Van Winkle does not own the rights to Under Pressure - he's lying. Bowie sold the back catalogue, before 1990, to financier David Pullman creating Bowie Bonds. And I have to take the claim that he had a role in Death Row records with a grain of salt. Van Winkle has been goofed on by other musicians, remember the line from Offspring's, Pretty Fly.

They didn't have Ice Cube so he bought Vanilla Ice.

It's not necessary to make a dark movie about Queen / Freddie Mercury. We all know he had a dark side. Hell, I have a dark side. You have a dark side Everyone on this board (obviously) has a dark side. That's not why I love Queen. I love Queen because of their music.

Queen was an amazing band and Freddie was arguably THEE greatest rock and roll singer of all time. (I'm hard pressed to think who, even in their prime, had a better voice than Freddie. Roger Daltrey in his prime, Bono in his prime, Robert Plant in his prime are the only ones who come close IMHO.) His music reached me as a youth and I still enjoy listening to it today. I don't need to see a movie about Freddie's dark side. He never publicized it, never did anything stupid like so many of today's punk ass pop tarts. I've heard the movie called "paint by numbers" and I'm fine with that. I want to see the movie on the big screen, but I figured I'd let the crowds die down a bit first. I'm never big on wedging myself into a theatre.

When Freddie cuts into the famous piano notes of Bohemian Rhapsody at 02:13 , it sends shivers down my spine and then it's incredible how he gets the crowd into it at 8:30

Queen absolutely stole the show that day.

***UPDATED LINK with one that has a much better sound and pic

Disclaimer - I have not seen the film yet but heard raving reviews from like-minded colleagues. That being said, people who are not happy with the film are up in arms about the historical accuracy and sanitization of the facts. With the given weekend box office results, many people think otherwise.

Other music bio-pics worth watching IMHO:
  • Walk The Line (2005) - Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash
  • Bird (1988) - Forest Whitaker as Charlie "Bird" Parker.
  • Elvis (1979) - Kurt Russell as The King and directed by John Carpenter(!)
  • Sid And Nancy (1986) - Gary Oldman as Sid Vicious
  • La Vie En Rose (2007) - Marion Cotillard as Edith Piaf
  • Control (2007) - Sam Riley as Ian Curtis (Joy Division)

I was never a Queen fan either but I thought the movie was pretty good to watch, it portrayed Freddie Mercury as a really 'out-there' kinda guy in dealing with his bi-sexuality and his band issues along with showing he was real arrogant.

Since you have started it as a side topic, I would submit "The Eagles" in the over-rated category.
