There’s a situation that’s brewing in Ottawa and I want to know if this is a common thing (am I overreacting?) and I’m just naive or what? How common is it for MA’s to have herpes and to know and for management to know and not do anything? I’m feeling very angry and very concerned about my sexual health. I would assume that the sexual health of workers and patrons would be important to the people involved in this industry!!!!! Do people really go around knowingly spreading this virus??

Anyone else have experience with this?

Ah, it takes two to tango. Were you involved in unprotected encounters (oral or p-slides)? If so, then best to look in the mirror and ask why you did that and be angry at yourself. That said, HSV 1 is ubiquitous in the civilian population and HSV 2 is pretty high too. It is a hazard of the hobby if you are not careful.

There is a difference between knowing and not knowing.

In this case, she knows and management knows yet clients are not told before the session. Let's be real, they are not told at all.

This is 10000% wrong. Knowingly doing this is the issue.

Unfortunately what is "wrong", whether ethical or moral, tends to play little to no part in business for both RL and this industry. This is nothing new. We are well aware we are rolling the dice whenever we hobby and meet someone new in RL when partaking in unprotected activities.

JR, we each recently posted on subjects of what is not permitted on here. ;)
(not questioning or disrespecting what is or isn't permitted on Terb)

I agree that we take a chance every time we hobby , however i thought that you are legally obliged to notify a potential partner of any communicable diseases.

If someone is HIV+ and knowingly has unprotected sex with another party and does not disclose their health status, then a charge of attempted murder could result. If the same situation occurs with an STD like herpes for which there is no cure than a charge of assault could be given.

Frankly, you might as well just consider it a hazard of engaging a SW. Supposedly 67 percentage of people in US and Canada have herpes 1(oral) and most may not have symptions. One out of eight people have herpes 2(genital) and almost all will have symptions. So if you have seen 40 SP's or MPA's you can figure at least 5 have herpes 2, and probably more considering the nature of the activity. How many providers have every told you their herpes 2 status? I'll bet the answer is ZERO. It seems to me that under the circumstances you might as well stop worrying about it or stop seeing SP's or MPA's.

There is something called viral shedding where the virus is given off but no sores are visible

The common cold and the flu are considered communicable diseases. Public health will not bother with herpes. Gonnorhea and syphilis are the worry. You know a client can unwittingly give a provider herpes too.

My understanding is there are no good screening tests to indicate whether an individual has HSV-1 vs. HSV-2 as the blood antibodies tests doesn't distinguish between the two. The blood test itself is very accurate from what I am told, with the only caveat being it can't differentiate between whether you have HSV-1 or HSV-2.
The blood tests do distinguish between the two. Viral culture test often a bit more difficult. If You are in a hsv 1 outbreak sometimes that casn elevate the hsv 2 results. But tests for antibodies is pretty good, even at times better than the PCR test.

Why is it when you report an sp with an STI, warning the public to be careful that I am the one that gets in trouble and is the bad guy here. Isn’t it the public’s best interest to know?

Between 80-90 percent of ALL sexually active adults carry HPV. Deal with it. Part of being an adult nowadays.

This is hilarious. If you partake in the "hobby" you almost certainly have been exposed to and/or contracted HSV 1 and/or HSV 2.
Aaaaand you'll be fine...

Because it’s a common way to spread false rumours and ruin reputations. There are more false claims made than true ones on many boards.

That's a huge assumption. Not all of us engage in activities which are the most favorable for the transmission of these diseases. I've been in the "hobby" for close to 6 years and have never caught anything (although had one HPV scare once - turned out to be something harmless- knock on wood!).
You definitely don't have a clue what HPV is... If you have kissed more than one or two SPs on the lips, you almost certainly have been exposed to HPV.
Unless you do nothing other than walk in and get a hand job, you've been exposed to HPV. Read up, bud.
I've been in the "hobby" for over 12 years. I've been exposed to HPV. If you have a healthy immune system, most of the time you should be fine. If you've gone down on a ton of SPs, your chances of eventual cancer of the tonsils or tongue have gone up somehwat though.
