Scheer won't commit to keeping cannabis legal if Tories form government

Conservative leader Andrew Scheer isn’t promising to keep cannabis legal if his party wins the 2019 election.
Instead, he said they’ll scrutinize the rollout of legal pot and go from there.

“The Conservative Party will do our due diligence, examine the consequences of this decision, and we’ll examine the reality on the ground,” he told Don Martin on CTV Power Play Thursday.

“We have to be realistic about what a change like this means for society and all the ramifications.”
Scheer has been critical of the rollout of legal cannabis. He said yesterday that the government “rushed” legalization in order to meet an “artificial political deadline.”
He also pointed to concerns among health experts about the minimum age for consumption and the uncertainty around roadside testing for cannabis-related impairment.
The Conservatives almost universally either abstained from voting or voted against the cannabis legalization bill, Bill C-45, at third reading in the House. Just one Tory MP supported the bill: Ontario MP Scott Reid.
The Conservative leader was among those who voted against legalization -- despite having admitted to smoking cannabis when he was young. He made the admission in an interview with Radio-Canada's "Tout le Monde en Parle."
Scheer isn’t the only Tory keeping mum about the future of Canadian cannabis under a Conservative government.
Conservative Health Critic Marilyn Gladu wouldn’t say whether the Tories plan to put the toothpaste back in the tube when it comes to pot legalization. When asked whether pot legalization was already at the point of no return, she wouldn’t provide a firm answer and instead focused on public wellbeing.
“The Conservative government will take an action plan to protect public safety,” she told Don Martin on CTV Power Play Wednesday.
Despite pushback from the Tories, the Liberals are touting pot legalization as a success.
Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said the move has been “broadly supported” by Canadians -- a claim that was beefed up by the massive lines and supply shortages at legal retail stores on Wednesday.

I almost feel sorry for the CPC who are stuck with Scheer for 2019 when they will have an actual shot at winning more seats. Nobody foresaw this when all the real contenders sat out the last leadership race. Scheer was always a clapping seal backbencher, then a puppet speaker, and now he's a totally clueless "leader" completely out of his element and his comfort zone. Ever since USMCA was signed he's been flailing from one issue to another desperately trying to find some traction with anything. First it was a kneejerk criticism of the deal when it was obvious he hadn't even had the deal explained (slowly) to him. Then it was the blatantly opportunistic attempt to gain something on the back of a murdered child (Tori Stafford). When that went nowhere, the clueless Scheer boasted that he would have achieved a "better" deal than the Liberals on USMCA, again without going into any details. Now this. The man is a joke.

If you want a laugh, go to Scheer's Twitter page and read the comments. CPC Central doesn't even waste much on fake supporting posts either, which is telling - since the CPC still have more than enough money to have a room full of people posting on newspapers, posing as supporters. But only the odd, pathetic post in support of Scheer on his own Twitter feed. It's a wonder they keep it running.

Anyway, it's a real shame that the CPC are stuck with Scheer since a good opposition should actually serve a purpose other than just knee-jerk opposition. Scheer is SO clueless and has such low credibility, that he could join Terb and fit right in with the rest of the idiotic Terb "righties". He is THAT bad.

.......and Chrétien promised to kill the GST, and he didn’t, he vowed to kill The Free Trade Agreement and didn’t.....McGuinty promised not to raise taxes and he did.......Wynne said she wouldn’t sell Hydro and she did....Sheila Coops promised to resign over the GST......and she did, for about 5 seconds and ran in the by-election to regain her seat which was the pinnacle of political cynicism!.....( do you see a commonality???)...don’t always believe what politicians say.

It seems that he is trying to find a way to fuck his chances up!

Watching his latest TV ads he always has that stupid grin on his face. I haven't seen him in a serious discussion yet to see if he still shows that goofy grinning face.

Per the USMCA he may not have got a better deal, but he probably would have got a similar/same deal but much sooner.

Reversing the legalization of cannabis would be political suicide at this stage of the game. If he wants to show any leadership abilities he should squelch that rumor real quick.

I agree that it is a shame that the PC's are stuck with Scheer. More so since Trudeau is proving himself as a complete waste of space.

Scheer has the church lady vote and Bernier has the racist vote, which will leave Justin a clear path to victory.

Yes it is a really sad state of affairs that the best that is offered to the nation is this set of jack-offs. Is it that no one with a brain or an ounce of leadership skills want to run this country?
